Swampyankee, welcome to the Portland.  I just moved here from Boston 3 months ago.  The techniques are a bit different, but these are good guys and will happily show you the ropes.  If you ever get home sick let me know and I will happily head out to drag a T&W or toss some Hogys and Sluggos.

Yeah, we could live line bunker, porgies, or eels. Then toss pencil poppers to busting fish. I love trolling tube&worm, caught lots of yak stripers that way. Then the Nantucket sleigh ride.

Right on, I cut my kayak fishing teeth fishing for blues and stripers in the mid-90's while in grad school.

Welcome Fishonspj!  What's your story?  New or native to Portland?  New or old salt to kayak fishing?

I'm finally in the PDX area too now guys - just got settled in to a place with a sweet location in downtown!  8)

new to kayaking ( so new i don't even own one yet :spittake:) this is research for me as I WILL own one soon. I'm a tooner right now i love both of my toons but want the next step Yaks. much more access.
native San Diego but been here for 11 years.  no fishing like this down there unless you want to go 60 miles off shore. or Mexico. my wife is a native infact we live 5 blocks from her parents house. so by marriage (I'm native) if that works.  ???
i love the pnw and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. i love this site lots of info here and good humor too. thanks for the ideas so far . my wife is spinning right now cause she sees $$$$$$$$$$ and that allways scares her. thankfully i own my own company and i use the "oh that I've had that for months" routine ::).

tight lings guys.

Greetings!

I thought I would introduce myself here as this is the closest section I found for a generic section. Anyway... I hope I found the right place...

The names is Erik, and I live in Creswell Oregon (just South of Eugene). I bought a Wilderness Systems Commander 120 Angler this past spring and have enjoyed it several times (but never enough!) already this last year on the water. I'm looking to associate with other fellow locals that know the ropes and might offer up a few of there favorite kayak fishing secrets.

I've fished all my life in all types of water, but I still consider myself a novice. I guess that's why they call it "fishing" and not "catching". I'd like to hook up with any group or individuals going out somewhere here in Oregon on the weekends. I'm up for rivers, lakes or I'm anxcious to try going out in the ocean. Drop me an email or PM.

Welcome! you should hook up with Coosbayyakker for some Sunset Bay lessons! Was there today (and thus drove through Creswell on my way home) and got to learn how that area of the coast works... since it's not self bailing, i'd personally be a bit nervous about it on the salt, but if you're in an area sans surf launch, it should prove itself useful!

Welcome to NWKA BV. Like he said Sunset would be a good choice on a calm day and offers plenty of different levels of excitement, depending on comfort and skill level. Give me a heads up if you plan to come this way and do my best to get out there with ya, or at least give you some pointers on where to go, or not go..

I'll most likely be heading up to Dexter a couple times ths year to help a friend do some work on his house. Was planning on splashing the Kayak at Dexter Reservoir or others while I'm there. I'll post a heads up on here if and when i do. Company is always welcome.
See ya on the water..

I merged the topic as it seems to be the official intro page for OR.
