i'm usually what you would consider a "lurker".  at least thats been my M.O. over on ifish.net.  yep, not even 3 weeks ago i came across a thread on ifish that was amazing and simple all at once.  i love to fish and kayaks have always intrigued me but never did i think people would combine the two.  someone linked the url for this site and i started exploring.  call me crazy but i went out and bought one.  i got lucky and found a great deal on a used ocean kayak prowler 15 on craigslist last weekend.  took it out that night to get a feel for it, then north fork lewis next night.  i'm hooked.

i'll be headed to beverly beach this weekend but not sure if i'll take it out or not.  i dont want to push things and end up on the wrong side of a tide that takes me to fiji.  but i've heard about crabbing the bays and rockfishing close in.

i'm based out of vancouver washington.  i'm a single guy (usually) and love to fish.  what i'm hoping is to meet some of you that would be willing to take on a tadpole and show him the ropes.  i'm up for anything.  i would love to do a drift down a steelhead river but being just me i cant seem to find a workaround to the vehicle shuttle thing.  let's get together and float the lewis, cowlitz, sandy, nehalem or whatever strikes your fancy.  need a spotter in tillamook?  i'm your man.  bass in john day?  you bet.

looking forward to meeting some of you.

Welcome Tom--  we have a bunch of good guys in the Portland area that spend a lot of time on the rivers down there so you should have no trouble hookin up

Good luck and remember --we like lots of pictures.

hey ya Urungus..welcome to a great and growing site.. not only in terms of membership, but also in terms of community.

look around, enjoy, read.. there's plenty of things to see and find here. you'll find topics ranging from what NOT to wear to what to wear. how to rig an anchor trolley, install your fish finder, make a rotating fly dryer, rig a drift sock.. gosh, you name it, someone here has done it or can help you do it..
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

Welcome to NWKA Tom. I pretty much did the same as you. Hardly ever  Kayaked my whole life, unless you call riding waves(or mostly not riding) in an inflatable cheapo sevlor yak after a few beers in cali. My best friend bought one last october so of course i had to get one the next day. It's totally addicting for sure, i love it!!

Lot's of good people and info here to get you going in the right direction.
See ya on the water..
Roy

Nehalem chinook are starting to show, and I know several folks have been talking about a trip there.  I'm currently trying ot  negotiate a hall pass out of the wife.  I am by no means an expert, but happy to spend some time on the water and show you what I know.

If nothing else, gotta get back in practice trolling herring, for those Tillamook and Nestucca fall runs.

yep that's a brit  :)  thanks for the warm welcome.  looking forward to putting some fish in the boat.  very interested in targeting the bigger fish.  can only imagine the fun a 52 inch sturgeon or 30 lb chinook is going to be pulling me all over while i drop my net in the water and get towed 2 miles downstream.

No one's going to Fiji - but the women are much nicer there!

If you're coming to Beverly Beach this weekend we need to go fishing.  I just looked out the window and though we have a few, the waves are small now.  It's supposed to rain tonight and that generally means it'll lay down the following days.

I don't have a cart yet but if you can help me get my yak down onto the beach I'll be OK.  Otherwise, Depoe Bay would be good or inside the jetty in Newport.

PM me with your info and I'll return mine.  I have a board meeting all day Saturday but am open Friday and Sunday (maybe Sat afternoon/evening too).

PS: Welcome to NWKA.
