River Levels and Ocean Conditions Links

1st off Happy New Year All!

Hey Mods,

Any chance you guys could add some ocean conditions and hydrologic predictions links to the main page or create a conditions page that displays this info. for 2009.  Sure, we can find them elsewhere but it would be handy if we could use this site to plan our fishing trips as well record them.

NOAA River Level Predictions

Northern Oregon Ocean Forecast

Southern Oregon Ocean Forecast

Thanks Guys!

Thanks Spot.  Those are good links to have.  There are a couple options for these links...

1.) an article on the front page about planning your kayak fishing adventure (hint hint).

2.) make this a sticky post (I'll at least do that for now)

3.) add a new tab on the nav bar similar to IFish.net's "Fish Data".

Or bury them in the links section.   ;)

How about Saltwatertides.com?  I have been using this site for years to plan my crabbing trips.

I like this site for tide prediction..
http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/

There are a lot of options including a neat graphing option.  The computer program behind the scenes at this website (Xtide) also has a few portable versions.  I used to have it for my palm pilot and now there is even an Iphone app.

I just saw this on Twitter.  Looks like it might be valuable for river fishing.

Here is a great video that explains, pretty clearly, what swell period, wave height and wave length mean, as well as how that translates into breakers on the beach.  As well as being about monster waves.

Oops, just noticed that I posted in the wrong sticky.  If any mod wants to move this to the ocean weather sticky, that would be great

http://www.nanoos.org/nvs/nvs.php?section=NVS-Assets  Click on "Assets".

The site provides real time access to marine weather observations from all sorts of local, state, and federal monitoring assets like buoys, weather stations, river stations, ...  Coverage extends from the Tatoosh tip of WA down into N.CA.  Includes Puget Sound, and a lot of coverage of the river mouths on the WA/OR coast.  It is information rich and the assets provide a varying amount of data, so some time is required to figure out which assets will give you what you want.

For example Station 46211 - Grays harbor (offshore) provides Avg. Wave Period (8.1s), Dom. Wave Period (11s), Water Temp. (54.1F), Wave Height (10.2ft), and Wave Mean Direction (from 267).   At the time of this posting the observations were 65 minutes old.  Forecasts are also provided.

I've had really good luck for river levels using fishHead for the iPhone. Not sure if they have it for other platforms.
