I wouldn't mind tagging along with whomever is planning a "keeper sized" sturgeon trip locally on a Wed, Thurs, Fri, or Sat.  I mostly want to "see" what/where/how it is done, and what all is needed to be somewhat successful.  I can't jump into the fishing part just yet (don't have the cash funds to rig myself out).

I'd even be willing to take pics for whomever is fishing.

See if you can get bsteves to go.  He's looking for someone to fish with and I understand he has some spare equipment........

INSAYN,

Let me know when you want to go.  I have an extra anchor setup as well as a couple extra appropriate rods.  As for keeper fishing, it's open Thursday - Saturday.  Avoiding the crowds on Saturday isn't a bad idea.

I haven't spent a dime on any licenses yet this year, so what all do I need?  I'm off every Wed, Thurs, Friday and every other Saturday.  When are you thinking of going out again (BS).

INSAYN,

If you want to get a season license you'll need a Angling License $24.75 and Combined Angling Harvest Tag $21.50 (required for sturgeon, steelhead, salmon and halibut).    If you want to just do a day license it's $12 and includes a mini-harvest tag for the day.

As for date, let's pick a decent Thursday or Friday in the next few weeks.

Sorry, we'll be fishing for sturgeon somewhere on the Willamette River between Oregon City and St. Johns.  I'll check on getting a day (Th or Fr) off this week and let you know more details.

I split this off into it's own topic.  The weather is looking pretty good for Thursday.  High tide is at 1:30 so no real hurry to get out there.  We could fish late morning to mid afternoon.

Werkz 4 me!  PM me on what all I need to bring, and where to meet Thurs.   I am sturgeon stoopid, so keep that in mind.  I'll pick up my license and tag on the way home from work in the morning.    :fish:

INSAYN,

I'd PM you regarding details but I don't see any reason not to share with others..  Who knows maybe someone else will show up.

What you need to bring...

Warm clothes
Your kayak, paddle, pfd, fish finder etc...

A way to measure fish between 38 and 54 inches.  I've made marks on the side of my kayak with a sharpie, but there are other options like a marked dowel.

For a rod, you'll need something like a salmon rod or a decent bottom fishing rod.  Something that can handle line in the 25 lb test range.  If you don't have anything like this, let me know and I'll bring an extra.

I have an extra anchor set up that I'll bring for you to use.

For bait we should get a combination of smelt, sand shrimp, worms and/or squid.  A package of each should be plenty for the two of us.  If you have a chance to pick some of that up when you get your license great, if not I'll get it Wed night.

For terminal tackle, you'll need a combination of weights in the 2-10 oz range.  With the low water, I'm guessing 2-6 oz will be more likely.  You'll also need sinker sliders, heavy barrel swivels, and 5/0-7/0 sturgeon leaders.  If you can pick some of these up for yourself, great, if not let me know and I'll make sure we have enough.

Right now I think we should meet and launch at Cathedral Park in St. Johns at 10 am.

I'm gonna try to make it, but have an appointment first, so I'll be late.  I'll try to reach you guys on vhf 69 from the kayak launch under the St Johns Bridge.  Don't catch 'em all before I get there.
