2007 Everett Coho Derby ... Human Powered Watercraft Division

It's somewhat official now.  The Everett Coho Derby committee has extended an offer to have a human powered watercraft division for their derby.  The derby is open to MA's 8-1, 8-2, 9, 10 as well as the Skagit, Stilliguamish, and Snohomish rivers.  The derby weekend is September 22-23 so mark your calendars.  This is one of the biggest derbies on the west coast with upwards of 3000 people participating.  Since the area is large, I don't expect to be fishing in crowded areas assuming we pick our locations wisely.  That being said, it is not a rule that we need to gather and fish from one location.  It's just a lot more fun if we choose a location to set up camp together.  So let the planning begin!!  Anyone have any good ideas on places for us to set up camp?

The camping options I know are Whidbey (South Whidbey, Casey, Ebey, Deception) and Camano. South Whidbey and Fort Ebey are the best, IMHO.

I was talking to one of the organizers today and he mentioned that Human Powered Watercraft division would have to include driftboats on the rivers.  Anyone have any issues with this?

I was actually thinking that drifting the lower Snoho would be productive in a kayak.

I don't know where the camping would be (probably for me it would be at my own house) but is anybody thinking about working the lower Snoho like Polepole mentioned.  It looks good to me.

Not sure if I'll camp either as it is so close to home, but I'd like to at least gather somewhere with you all and have a BBQ on Saturday evening.  If someone is coming some distance to get here, let me know, and I can probably put you up at my house.

It looks like a nice spot to have an afternoon BBQ as well.

I'll be flatlining wiggle warts or tossing spinners.  Man I wish I had prepped some eggs from Moutcha.

I'm pretty sure Jesse and I are going to be in on this one.  He's backpacking for the weekend so I'll have to confirm next week.

Allen, in regards to "preparing some eggs" did you mean to eat at the BBQ after or for bait?

If I had the room I was going to bring as much as I could home and cure it up for some winter river steelhead.....but Alas.....too many fat fish in the coolers......the macks got all the eggs........next year I'm bringing a small cooler just for them.

Yes, I meant curing them up for bait.  If anyone gets into the pinks before then, I'd appreciate it if you put some up for me.  I usually just use the Pro Cure bait powder.  But even just putting them on Borax would be great.

So it looks like I'll only be fishing the mornings of each day as I have to work the Ocean Kayak booth at the weight in starting at 10AM each day.  I should get off at 4 on Saturday and can meet up with you all for a BBQ somewhere, either at Langus or at the 10th Street Public Boat Launch in Everett.  Let me know and I'll be there.  Also, if anyone is thinking about demo-ing any of the OK kayaks, let me know and I'll see what I can dig up.  If you really want to demo something else, like a Wilderness Systems or a Hobie, let me know and I'll see if the reps are able to make some available.  No promises on the other yaks, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
