Sunset Bay on 8/19 ?
« on: August 17, 2009, 09:54:58 am »
Will be in the area on Wed. and would like to hit sunset bay, but have never been out of there. Looking at the forcast, it looks like it's going be improving. Not sure how to interpet marine forcast for that area. Also looking for anyone that want to go or any info on the fishing.
Thanks Dave

Well it wasn't a bad day,, just not all that good!!
Met AKDave for coffee and got to the bay about 7:45 am, foggy, lumpy and silty water, Fished in the lee of middle reef ,nothing going on.. Dave drew first blood with a Greenling, We made it till 11 ish and found our way back in. Tide was up made for good loading, early tide was 1.9 minnus, looked like some one pulled the plug, muddy launch..
Was good meeting AKDave ,well equipted T-13 and a good fisherman,, Picture of Dave,,,, 2nd pic of a kayaker from Roseburg and his lovely daughter, and Dave.

Great MO,, Keep an eye on the forum,   . fishing is usually good there.. Wait for clear water, these really low tides and some swell stir it  up.
Looks like you were fishing in a rootbeer float! Foamy..

Looks like a nice day on the water. Welcome to NWKA mo.

One thing I think you need to see to, is to get some proper outerwear for kayak fishing. Shorts and cold OR water are a bad combo. Make that the first thing to get in your next kayak fishing purchase. A long john wetsuit is the cheapest with breathable waders/drytop combo next, and the full drysuit at the top. Like we always say, your outerwear should reflect the water temps, not the weather. Prepare for immersion.

There's a few good threads about it here: http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,3276.0.html

I feel ya mo. I think a lot of us were in the same spot when we started. Keep an eye on our classified section and also craigslist for deals.
