Saturday 2/27
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:25:06 pm »
Hey All, It looks like you've been a busy bunch during my absence.  ;)  I haven't got a line wet this year. Anyone heading out this Saturday in the greater Portland area? What's biting these days? Salmon (a bit early for Springers)? Steelhead? Sturgeon? LMB? SMB?

My freezer is getting bare...

Yeah man you do need to get out there. That's a long time to go w/o yakfishing. Lucky for you springers are right around the corner. I fished with Pelagic last weekend and there was a springer caught right nearby.

water is getting dirtier and dirtier by the minute right now.  Sturgeon are starting to pick up on herring thanks to all the heads salmon trollers feed them.

Salmon trolling at Sellwood has been producing, but only 6-10 on good days.  Herring and prawn spinners have both been successful

I'm leaving my house at 330am in the morning, to get down to SandLake estuary by 5am, to get on the water by 530-6am, to fish the incoming tide for flounder and crab.  Feel free to meet me down there.  Plan on launching from the fisherman's wharf just on the south side of the OHV area at the end of the road.  I'll have my VHF on 69.

Where were you guys fishing?

I put my first springer of the year in the boat yesterday morning on the willy (PB).  Steelhead have been cooperating well too ;D.

If I were you I would give smallmouth a shot.  Water temp has been near 50 all week. Hit the points with jigs or lipless crankbaits like a rattle trap (sliver patterns). Talked to a bass guy today who had found a few.
