I strongly suggest a better measuring device.

I could try for another order of custom hawg troughs.  Or... for about a dollar more you can buy one from Cabelas and slap an NWKA sticker on it.

I just didn't know the proper name, I've looked all over for one of those.  Maybe I can find on in Lacey tomorrow.  Thanks!

wish they made longer ones, maybe 42ish or so.  30 is a little short for larger fish like salmon and lings etc.  Guess I will make my own.

You've probably seen the ones that the fish checkers have. They have an arm that is housed inside that telescopes out to measure something longer than 30 in. That might be a good idea to go off of.

It's pretty easy to make fish measuring boards.  I'll see if I can't dig up some plans on the internet.  Wood, large diameter PVC, etc.. all work well.  Basically make a board that the fish lays on with a cap at one end to push the fishes head against and tape/laminate a ruler onto it.

Here's another kayak fishing site doing an AOTY and they have a whole page dedicated to measuring and photographing fish

We should create something similar.

Seems like you could just cut part of a 5 gallon bucket out. Cutting part of the bottom up the side would create that L shape you're looking for, although it might be on the short side.

If I drift the river with my buddy in my yak, and hand him any fish I catch to throw in the cooler, is that "assisted"?

If I'm fishing a river legal for hatchery Steelhead and catch a native (and release it), does it count?
