The official word from the ODFW is that all Wa residents will need a OR license to fish Youngs Bay.

Z

Only if you launch from Oregon. If someone realy wanted to be thrifty they could launch in WA and paddle to youngs bay and use a WA license. :banjo:

Oregon and Washington have Columbia River mainstream "launch reciprocity".  The catch is Youngs bay is not considered part of the Columbia mainstream.  It wouldn't matter where you launch you need an Oregon license to fish Young's bay proper.  Much like Drano spring salmon fishery upriver.  You can launch on the Washington side with an Oregon tag and fish the mainstream all you want and land your fish in Washington, but you may not fish up in Drano proper with out a washington tag if you are from Oregon regardless of where you launch from

Pelagic is correct you will need a Oregon Licence to fish Youngs Bay.  I will need a Washington Licence to fish Drano.  That's just the way it is doesn't matter where you launch from.

I know this is a lot to ask, and I should just find this out myself but, Could someone in the know post the regs regarding terminal gear, floats etc etc. and any regs us out of staters need to keep in mind/plan for.  In Oregon crab regs are fairly minimal regarding gear requirements, how is it in Washington?

Here's the link to the WDFW Sportfishing Rules.
Download and go to page 130 for general crabbing rules (we'll be fishing the "Columbia River region) and page 133 for crab gear rules.

Right on Admins! Think I can make Cape Disappointment and Young's Bay this year.

It's a bit early for planning it but, maybe a few of us Puget Sounder's can carpool to make it easier?

didn't realize how packed in thing are. Work's gonna be happy with me gone for a week for iCast, then take the next weekend off for the crab derby. Then two consecutive weekends in August... ouch... oh well.

Wow, those WA crab Regs are stiff. Only two pots, red/white markers, weighted lines, name/address ID, rot cord, and bigger backs at a time when half might still be mushy.

Might be easier/cheaper to rent pots up there? Maybe somebody in that hood could scout pot rental availability and cost for those that don't want to re-rig.

boo hoo

At least we're still babysitting most of the sea lion population down here.

Is the Dungy Tourney still going down?

I'm not really into crab, but the last two tournaments are on weekends that I'll be in South Carolina, so I figured I'll do the crab thing and bring all the kids along.
