NWKA tournament entry fees
« on: March 31, 2010, 05:30:19 pm »
Being that most NWKA members come from two states we can't help that when a member wants to enter a tournament across state lines they have to pay the entry fee plus a license and sometimes more, like the OR invasive species permit. To keep things a little more even and as a measure of goodwill between states we're proposing giving all out of state entrants to NWKA tournaments a $10 discount. Should they get it?

Sounds fair to me.  It may be the deciding factor for those on a tight budget to actually attend.

This sounds very reasonable. Anything that brings a few more to the party is worth it.

BTW: I have 3 invasive species permits.  More than likely, the boys won't be entering any of the contests so I'll have 2 that can be used by our Washington brothers.

When I get around to buying mine I will have a couple extra also..

Sounds like a nice gesture but is 10 bucks really the deal breaker on whether or not someone is going to attend or not. I'm thinking if money is that tight then they aren't going to be making the trip anyway.  For me it's not the entry fee it's the stupid job that the money comes from that gets in the way. ;D

$10 may not be a lot, but it nearly covers one night in a campsite.  Every little bit counts these days considering it cost me nearly $200 to do ORC'09 excluding tourney fees.  I think it would only be fair to return the favor to the Oregon guys coming into Washington for Cape Disappointment since they'd need to cover their out-of-state licenses/fees.

The entree fees are more or less arbitrary anyways, and get used for prizes mostly, and some event support.  A reduction in entry fees, likely means a slight reduction in prizes, unless we do a really good job of getting prizes donated outright.  Just so you all know ...

Outta work is my dream job ;D

All kidding aside though I'm not trying to say we shouldn't help people I just don't think ten bucks is going to recruit more people into entering and PolePole said it could affect prizes.  Yarjammer said it cost him 200 bucks to get to the ORC last year he did it cause he had it to spend.  I don't think he would spend 190 dollars to come this year if that was all the money he had.  I just don't see 10 dollars being the difference making it to the tourney or not making it.

I would however donate ten dollars to go into a pot to help people travel to a tourney.  Maybe get a list of members who really want to attend a tourney but won't be able to because money is just to tight.  Then draw a name randomly and they get their entry fee and camping paid for out of the pot.  With enough donations we could have a drawing held for every tourney.

Just thinking out loud here ???
