Hello hello, another new guy in Portland...

I just wanted to say hello and indroduce myself. I got this link from ifish.net(my moniker over there is Arima17Ryan) at the perfect time. I am currently rigging a Hobie Mirage Outback for fishing. I have had fishing boats for seven years or so, but decided to take a break from bigger boats for a while and thought the yak would be a good way to keep fishing(plus I love to be different!). I'm currently rigging it for the ocean and bays but it will also get used for lake fishing. I've got a handheld GPS, handheld VHF, and a battery powered FF but I'm still trying to figure out the best layout for said items. Anyway, I live in Portland and plan on using the Hobie when I visit the in-laws at their house at Seaside, OR. So areas from Astoria to Tillamook(plus the Portland area) are where I plan to fish. I'll be following the message board for tips and tricks. I look forward to advice from the experienced kayakers and hope to see you the water! Tightlines

Seems like a good size group in your area; maybe we'll have to talk Polepole into a group event.
I've got family in PDX, so even though I'm 8 hours N of you, we may get a chance to meet.

A group event would be awesome! I'd love a chance to learn from the more experienced kayak fishermen. Plus security in numbers right?

Why talk me into it?  Seems like those guys down there are doing a great job getting together and fishing.  rkj1974, just watch the boards for hookups or post one of your own.

That being said, I'd love to have an official event down in OR.  Probably not going to happen this year, unless someone takes the bull by the horns.  But definitely we'll plan one for next year ... I promise.

Howdy!  I live in Portland and also have an Outback... check the rigging pages for some photos of how my boat is set up.

My work has been crazy for the last few weeks, so my kayak hasn't been in the water.  I'd love to get together sometime and do some fishing though... have had some great trout fishing up on Mt. Hood lakes via kayaking, but now I'm really looking forward to salmon fishing. 

Have you fished Multnomah Channel much, or the upper tidewater on the Nehalem?  Fall kings on the channel and coho on the N. Fork Nehalem are two things I want to try this year, but I have little experience in either place.

Sorry for the slow response, but I too live in PDX and I pedal an Adventure. Is your boat white and on top of a big white SUV? If so, I think I may have seen you in the Fred Meyer lot on Barbur.

 I've been meaning to post a pic of my rig on 3wt's hobie thread, but I'm still trying to get one of those roundtuits.

I'm planning to go back to Pacific City on Saturday morning to fish around Haystack.  If its too big we'll fish the Nestucca and/or Nestucca Bay. You are more than welcome to join us.

Jee wiz, now I'm sorry. My work has also been crazy and I haven't checked in the last two weeks. Anyway....

Threeweight. I did see that that you fish an Outback. I'd love to fish with you sometime. I have experience fishing the channel via powerboat for spring chinook and a few times for sturgeon. I would venture out to the big river for fall chinook when I had the powerboat though. I'm wondering if my Hobie would look good parked in a hog line....   I'm sort of planning to hit the channel for springers this coming year since I've sold the big boat and going to fish the kayak for a while. I'd be happy to show you what I know. Lets plan on some fishing in the future.

Fishesfromtupperware. You couldn't come up with a shorter moniker?... No, I drive a Toyota 4runner so it wasn't me. I would have loved to join you guys but that date has obviously passed. I will try to keep a closer eye on this website for future outings. I'm still trying to get my FF mounted. I didn't want to make any holes in the Hobie, so I'm trying to build a bracket that piggybacks the rudder for the transducer. I sort of stalled out last week due to work but I hope to get back to building pieces in the week to come.
