*Jammer's Cabezon would have also won, or would have at least taken 2nd Place if we allowed someone to enter more than their top fish.

**  On a personal note I did have the biggest black rockfish and greenling of the tournament, but those couldn't compete with all the lings and cabezons.   I did however rack up a 578 AOTY points for the day and a bunch of nice fillets.   ;D

Those were some awesome fish for sure.  Jammer, you da man!  Way to haul up them piggies.

I want to say that whomever found and chose to use Chinook Bend as the base camp, scored high points on this one.  The owner was VERY down to earth and went out of his way to make us all happy, ie...park willy nilly on grassy areas, use the covered patio for the potluck, fix hook up power, turn on power where we needed it for coffee and slow cookers, and supply firewood to a huge bon fire. Showers and restrooms were very clean and in great working order.  They had a reasonable fish cleaning station right on the river, and a nice close launch area for those that wanted to play in the river.  Seems like all the kids were well entertained with all the llamas and goats to pet, a play ground, and dock fishing.  I never heard my kids complain once.  Even the wife was kept busy enough to keep my WAF points from dwindling while idle.

Hopefully we will get to use this location again in the future. Even if it is just for a general group outting.  8)

We can thank Greg "FishSniffer" for that one.     The owner is indeed very down to earth.  If we wanted to have a huge bonfire until 4 am with loud music, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have minded.  In fact, I'm pretty sure he would have joined us.  From talking to him, it sounds like he has a bunch of Wicka pagens showing up next weekend to celebrate the solstice so I think he can handle just about anything.

I stayed up late all three nights I was there drinking with the proprietor and his staff.  They are a great bunch of guys that operate on a basis of mutual respect.  Chinook Bend was a great find and I think it is well suited to a group like ours.  Imagine 15 or 20 guys loading up and heading out to the water between 3-6am at a State Park... I doubt we'd be as warmly received when we returned.

Many thanks to everyone who made this year's event the success that it was.   :notworthy:

My only suggestion for next year's event would be to have someone at the launch throughout the day for weigh-ins/support.  It would have been nice for the guys who limited early or needed some unanticipated dramamine and fluids.

In other official results... the food at the potluck was again excellent.  GoldenDog's chowder and TheNothings poke seemed to be big hits this year.  I missed out on Jammer's burgers the night before, but I heard good things.

Next year we should have an informal food competition.

Hey, I like to fish too and I thought being back at noon was plenty early to start the weigh in.  Extra fluids and dramamine can be easily obtained in Depoe Bay.  You could also run back to camp for awhile if you got tired of waiting in the parking lot, just be back by 3:00 for the weigh in.

Agree!  Goldendog's chowder was a BIG hit amongst me and the kids.  Tanner downed 3 servings, that little piggy!

The fresh fried fish was flying off the cooling plate as fast as it was coming out of the hot oil.  Thanks again for yee that supplied the peanut oil, it made regulating the oil temperature a breeze without it smoking.

I didn't mean you Brian.  I was thinking more along the lines of someone's wife or GF manning the station.  If my wife were there, she probably would've been willing to do it... at least part of the day.

The taco soup was excellent as well!

The fish fry had a constant line in front of it all night.  The fish would barely hit he paper towels and someone would risk blistered fingers to snatch it up.   Big thanks to our fry daddy Craig "INSAYN" for manning the fryer, our resident fish monger Isaac "The Nothing" for keeping the bones out of our bite size morsels and everyone who donated fillets.

A wife or other non contestant would work well, but I couldn't imagine asking mine to sit in a parking lot all morning waiting for fish to weigh.

1 lb orzo pasta
2 bags baby spinach
1 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup roasted pine nuts

I'll have to look up the dressing proportions but I believe the ingredients were rice vinegar, peanut oil, sesame oil, dry mustard powder, salt and pepper

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2010 ORC.  Looks like some really nice fish were caught.

Sounds like everyone who stayed at Chinook Bend had a good time.  We had made other plans, and when they found out we were not staying there they wanted $4.00 a car to drive down to sign the tournament waiver.  We had two rigs.  "That will be $8.00 for the parking fee."  I thought "you gotta be kidding me..."  No, he was serious.  It hit me wrong, and I'll never stay there.  That also played into why we skipped the dinner.  Glad to hear that those who did stay there had a good time.

Depoe Bay was alot of fun.  I'd do it again for sure.  By the way, anybody know the particulars on the Coast Guard recovery of a kayak fisherman?  Just wondering.

Looking forward to next year.  Have fun everybody...

Alan

I think we could probably convince our significant other to at least hang out for a couple hours or so in shifts or something.  As next years event comes together I'll take the reigns on this one and see if I can get something worked out.  Maybe I'll make a leader board for the station that could be used for the awards ceremony.
