Rescue Knife suggestions

Looking for a good rescue knife to have clipped on the PFD for quick access in emergency stuations. Fixed blade of course, and around 50 bucks. What do you guys use?

Haven't looked at anything so far, so not leaning toward any knife yet.

The only downside is if you don't keep up on oiling the blade it will start to rust a bit (of course pretty much all of 'em except for the Ti and high grade SS knives).  On the flipside - The knife feels great in your hand and the sheath is awesome.  At the time I was looking at knives the Gerber had a horrible sheath design that looked like it would become too loose over time.  I believe they fixed it recently, but having used this one I wouldn't go back to try it.

I had the Gerber Rivermate and the River Runner and by far like the River Runner better. The sheath is a million times better, it's lighter, more compact, and seems to keep rust away better. You can usually find them for sale online somewhere for near $25. BTW don't go for the River Runner Shorty since its got a blunt tip. I took Pole's advice about the sharp pointed tip and has come in handy plenty.

I use the Wenoka Squeeze Stainless Blade. 



Variable mounting options:

    * (1) Stainless steel "barnacle nuts" & bolts are included for mounting through fabric or for easy installation on PFD with knife grommets
    * (2) Locking belt clip is integrated into the sheath for attaching the knife to webbing, and
    * (3) Sheath has molded strap slots for use with optional rubber leg straps

I like the blunt end for tool use if needed and the line cutter.  Only $22.00 in my neck of the woods.  They also make a titanium blade version.

I've been using the River Runner (both pointies and blunts) since 1995.  It's been at least a couple years since I've had to buy one, but I can tell you that the sheath design has been the same over that time frame, and it did NOT become loose over time.

I started with the blunts because I had some from my whitewater kayaking days.  Quickly discovered you can't spike a halibut with a blunt tip, and switched over to pointies.

I'm a big fan of the Gerber E-Z Out, but it's a folding knife. I'm not a fan of having anything hanging off my vest, so I've kept it in the front pocket for 10 years or so, and it's worked great the few times I've needed it:

I went with the blunt tip since I bought mine for the sole purpose as an "oh $h!t" knife on my pfd.  I keep one of these on my seat strap as my workhorse:

OK, so I have to say, i am impressed with this place already. Ordered late last night and i think i've got 4 E-Mails with order updates and it shipped today!

Now it will take UPS a week to get it here from Washington... I have an Order that shipped by UPS on the 21st of july that was delayed in Spokane from july 23rd to the 29th due to inclimate weather. WTF! was it too hot to work!? still haven't got it...
