« on: August 23, 2010, 10:14:51 pm »
DTS and I will be staying at Devil Lake State Park in Lincoln City Wed-Sat canning fresh tuna, with hopes of getting out for some rock fish/lings on Friday out of Depoe Bay.

Anyone else wanna swing some jigs with us! 8)

What about going out a little further and trolling for some silvers? After the FSC I got salmon wood in a bad way.  :o

Sounds like about 50/50 on keepers and throwbacks.

Two reasons.
I decided early in the year not to get tags this year, and..
I have spent entirely too much money on rockfish/ling tackle this year and nothing really to show for it yet.

I should (ocean permitting) be out of PC (for starters) for rockfish and silvers from Thursday-Sunday.  I may move north a little to improve my chances for salmon but first want to pad the rockfish stocks in the freezer.

Ling Banger, thanks again for the hospitality, Nina and I had a great time.  Here is a pic of my first ling.  I am not sure how big it is, as I was to busy trying not to start another chum-slick to find my tape.  My second one was a bit smaller, but not by much.

God I just felt awful for Ndogg, on the radio he sounded absolutely miserable, but he gutted it out a hell of a lot longer than I figured he would. It was a spin cycle day for sure. Fishing sucked. We trolled around for salmon for about an hour, word on the dock was they're still about ten miles out. Switched to bottom gear, cnr a nice cab, kept one black. For as rough as it was there was very little drift.

Had some nice wildlife viewing, saw 2 whales, a dozen porpoises, a six pack of pelicans, and some really wicked looking jellyfish. Was kind of hoping to see a turtle munching the jellies, maybe next time.

Had a good time fishing w/ya Nate, go to the doc and score some scopolamine patches, those are really effective for most folks. Good to see Insayn and DTS as well, I can't imagine you guys did all that well either, you guys were off the water and drinking a cold one somewhere while I was flailing around for hours on end for nada frittata.

I felt worse that I had to head back early than I did from the sea sickness.  I really wanted to stay out there longer, but I got to the point where nothing made me feel better.  I am going to try a higher dose of Bonine and some ginger extract before the scopolamine because last time I took scopolamine I had some unplanned side effects.

What did the scop give you a bad trip?  :o

Usually it's just cotton mouth and a little blurry vision.

Try taking a Dramamine the night before, then the Bonine in the morning.

Fishing sucked is an understatement.  Not even a freaking bite.  I killed myself with my stupid quick fishfinder setup I threw on the Revo.  I had made a slick mount for my Cuda to fit on my tandem for the prior week and worked awesome.  Giving that I had ZERO freaking time to come up with something better for this trip, I just tossed the mount into the sail mast, and bungee'd it down.

This was a mistake, as it put the Cuda in the direct path of my right peddle.  Thus, I had to resort to moving my peddles back a click from my normal setting.  This made me continually knee myself to the point of chumming as I clicked along.  When I stopped pedalling, I was fine.  I should have just bailed on the pedals and grabbed the paddle.  Oh....and somehow I managed to mount my seat on the wrong front eyes, and that thing was all over the place.

Water was a roller coaster for sure!  At one point, we are in 35 feet of water, and then just seconds we are in 45 feet, and back down to 35 again.   Saw a seal while touring inside the North reef, and am sure myself and DTS will show up on someone's Facebook from Nebraska or something.  Tons of folks on the sea wall point at us like we are tub toys.  ;D

Glad to hear I was not the only one chumming.  I have tried Dramamine unsuccessfully too many times to give it a try again.  Once I get real health insurance I will get scopotamine.  Now that I know that it may make me trip, I will make sure I enjoy it.   :o
