Argos, Kiwanda Jr. and I are mulling it over for Saturday out of Depoe Bay.

Anybody else interested in heading out of the Hole in the Wall?

Strong possibility. Gotta check at home for unannounced family activities first. What time y'all plan on being at the boat landing?

Yes, yes definitely a possibility.  If its calm enough to surf launch, anyone up for PC or 3 Capes?

I just got off the phone with Kiwanda Jr. Looks like were going to execute a plan we've been talking about doing most of the summer, because as Pelagic so eloquently put it in his post, we may not get another chance this year.

Were going to be on the ramp at 7:00AM and we are going to take a nice leisurely paddle down to Otter Rock and fish down there. It's about a 5 mile slog, but it looks like we'll have the breeze at our backs.

The haul out will be Beverly Beach, or if the surf looks too rough, we'll take out on the South side of Devil's Punchbowl, if the surfers will give us a wave or two.

K. Jr. has a trailer that will accommodate 6 yaks on the tree, so anybody that wants to make the float is welcome to come along, and he said he's willing to make two trips back to D.B. if need be.

Bring a helmet for the beach takeout, and apologies for the short notice on planning. Hope to see a good size flotilla heading Southbound past Cape Foulweather. See ya on the ramp!

3 capes?  Are you talking about 3 Arch rocks out of Oceanside or?  I'll be fishing PC Saturday and Sunday and maybe longer ;D

ling banger, wannabe, jammer and i paddled, peddled out of the hole around 8:00. started fishing the South reef right off the bat to get the stink off. i picked up one underling right off the bat, jammer hit a couple blacks, not a bad start. worked are way down in front of rocky creek and nailed a 29" ling and a greenling, wannabe got a 27" ling. it dried up from there for me but the guys were still picking some blacks. i cruised down to otter rock to hit the reefs there and my luck with the blacks continued, nothing. wanted to take out the fly rod and fish the kelp but it was like a washing machine in there. it was an awesome day on the water until.......
as soon as we got south of otter rock the north wind started hammering down off the south side of foulweather. started getting  concerned about a beach landing with the wind and a building swell so wannabe and i got ready and headed to bev beach. some spots were breaking pretty for offshore, the pucker factor is pretty high at this point. surfed in the first breaker, went to the beach inside the second. then it was wannbes turn and his luck was as good as mine, but we made it. gave a report to ling banger and jammer, they were still a mile away with conditions building, jammer decided to head back to db while lb prepared for the worst. he can share that story.
it was a great trip, have been wanting this all summer. i would do it again, but probably not with a forecast of n.20

Yep, thanks again guys for the awesome day. I ended up with a limit of large rocks(5 blk, 2 china) as well as 1 legal ling at 23". I did find a nice deep hole in the rocks 1 mile north of otter rock that landed me 7 lings, but 6 were just under size. I did try something yesterday that really helped my ling bite. As we all know, Lings like to throw up on our yaks, so i decided to keep a small filet(herring or jovi im not sure, but very well intact) and added a small nugget of the fish to my 2z-3z jig head's and plastic. This REALLY improved my catch rate. I think a piece of squid would work even better as it would last a lot longer, but eitherway, that scent really helped.
I also had an enjoyable time watching a mother and juvenile Grey Whale surfacing inside a tight cove of foam that was right in front of me. I pulled up my line and proceded to follow them into the foam a bit, but lost sight. What an awesome day.
Tight lines!

ya know i almost picked up a pack of anchovies to try that but it was just another thing to add to my list. i wont make that mistake again. or forget the shades. nice call heading back north to db. by the time we loaded the yaks off the beach at bv and got back to the harbor jammer was at the launch. i was amazed the difference in the weather north of foulweather.
