Trevala markdowns @ Fisherman's
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:47:15 pm »
salty bottom people,

Went out to FMS in Delta park, they have the smaller size Shimano Trevala rods marked down $20 to $100. The new model green ones are in, and FMS doesn't set the pricing, the Shimano rep does, so that may be as low as they get until they're gone. I think they had 3 more TVC-70ML, and a few TVC-70L left at that price. Bad news for toothy lings! Good news for us that still have room left in the freezer. Now if we could just get the swell to give us a window, forecast is looking poor for the foreseeable future.  :(

I wanted the 7ML at first but at the advice of a friend suggested the 66MH was better suited. I got one at Fishermans about a month ago at $100 as well. It's light enough for good fun w/ rockfish and has enough power for larger lings too. Just my .02.

66MH?  What you using that broomstick for?  I got a 66M and that's more than enough for pretty much all of the jigging I do.

Broomstick? You must be thinking of some other rod.

Are you sure you got an MH and not an ML?  I can't get my M to bend that far.  But I haven't been catching humongous fish like you have lately.

It's a MH. I borrowed ChuckE's when I was in Cali and really liked it.

I use the MH too, and that thing bends like crazy on ling and vermillions.  ;)

Interesting ...

I'm taking the M to La Paz in a couple weeks.  Will have to take some bendo shots of it.

FYI - It's a good thing to go a size heavier than you'll think you will require if you're going to be casting frequently with the rod. The sales guy told me that when they do fail it happens at that little metal insert where the blank meets the handle. Shimano is aware of this, and will warranty it when it happens, but who really wants to jump through all those hoops.

We're all trying to get the biggest fish we can and we want to be prepared when it latches on. So using a rod on the heavy side can give us a good chance at success IMO.
