2010 AOTY Final Results
« on: January 05, 2011, 11:39:16 pm »
Well sports fans, we've come to the end of another action packed year of kayak fishing competition here at Northwest Kayak Anglers.  As expected, this year's scores blew away the past records.

The new 20 fish AOTY format enabled competitors to take better advantage of their local opportunities.  Trout were broken out to Rainbow, Kokanee, Makinaw and Cutthroat.  Rockfish were split to True Rockfish, Cabezon and Geenling.  And, from the Panfish category came Walleye and Surfperch.  Not surprisingly, everones score cards were much fuller this year with each of the new fish categories seeing multiple entries.

For the lucky and the observant, "Bonus Fish" were game changers.  The two consistant bonus fish this year were Greenling and Cabezon.  Both of these categories garnered huge averages with the biggest Cabezon (at 204.8pts) also winning the ORC2010 Tournament for Jammer.

Speaking of bonus fish, 24togo posted the highest scoring fish of the tournament.  Taking advantage of a well documented uptick in the average size of mysis shrimp fed Kokanee, he made the long trek East.  Undetered by wind, rain or missing gear, 24togo hooked and more amazingly landed a MONSTER 24" Kokanee, good for an whopping 216pts!

Overall, there were some amazing performances this year.  eobasser handily topped last years winning score at the beginning of October with multiple players in striking distance.  For two months it appeared that he'd be uncontested.  Then, as if recovering from what should have been a knock out punch, CBY and Zee suddenly came back to life.

CBY scored 1st with a 135.12pt perch, dedicated to the memory of his brother, to round out his 10 scoring fish. Next came Zee with a fat 159pt perch.  2 days before tournaments end, Zee scored again to take the lead with a 164.25pt football shaped smallie.  And, on the final day of competition, looking for the win, CBY fell just short, settling for second with a 165pt Pile Perch.

In the end, our leader board was as follows:

That was a ton of fun and have to say the competition was fierce. Amazing catches all around. The smb's from EO, Noggin Yakker, and Pisco Sicko were absolutely SICK! You guys proved you are the sweet water killers.

The rockfish that Yak Monkey and Drool posted were straight up solid.

Jammer's cabezon.. what??

CBY's silver bullet Chinook!

And can't forget 24togo's Kokanee lunker!!

I gotta say AOTY is a real fun tourney that makes you learn about a lot of fisheries you might not normally fish much. And once you do learn you find there's some real hidden gems out there.

A big congratulations to everyone who competed in 2010 and a big thanks to all the sponsors that made it happen. Great to see all the quality fish caught and look forward to another great AOTY for 2011.

You'll definitely be rollin in style.  Bad ass Fish finder AND a new Lami?  I'd say your hard work over the last couple of years is paying off.   You're suddenly way ahead of all the entry fees you've put into this ride. ;D

Yea, I'd say so and the people i've met and stuff i've learned was worth it anyway..When your as addicted to this stuff as i am and have some time you can't help but do good.

I got plans for the Lami..Since I am a sure quick end to a nice rod, i will keep it new and raffle it off at the 2nd annual AOTDT with the proceeds going to be donated to a cancer research/treatment center in honor of my Bro.
