First Willamette Springer
« on: May 18, 2011, 12:07:54 pm »
Wow caught my first Willamete Springer this morning after three boats and thirty years. It took getting a Hobie and meeting a few great guys like Jammer, Jeffro and Anthony. Was able to learn the spots and gear when I met Jammer and looked at his article on shrimp spinners. Fished for two hours and switched from green to orange at 9:00 am. Saw a few fish hitting the surface and headed toward them. Two minutes later had a fish on and pulled it to mid-channel and away from the rocks. It took tweenty minutes or so to tire out the fish and net. As I blead the fish out and filled out my tag I hear a few big splashes. Oh no seal time to go home. Thank you guys for all the help.

You need to trade the photo to Hobie for some swag .... that would be a great marketing pic!

Very nice Stephen!! I had a good day today too down below the St John's bridge with 2 springers caught today. They were babies however compared to your brute! Where were you fishing on the Willamette?  It can take time to get the fish. This was my 7th trip out for salmon in my Hobie Outback and for some reason it all came together for me today. Again, congrats,  you deserve it after this long.

Way to go.  The Hobie mojo seems to be strong in these parts.

Nice job guy! It's nice to hear the bites improving with all the changes we've had in river levels.

Nice fish!  This summer is going to be hard.  My group used to start our fishing adventures in June.  Here it is Mid may still and not only have I caught my earliest King ever after fishing for them for over 30 years but I have been out more time than the past 4 years combined!  thank you YAK and thanks to everyone here plus fish porn like this for additional motivation!!!!!!

Just a quick update. I caught the first fish off the old boat ramp at GR. Also on Saturday I took my oldest daughter out and we caught a nice wild Chinook buy the rowers boat house. Orange seems to be the color they like.
