Tounament of TaRDz
« on: June 03, 2011, 03:35:29 pm »
While at a recent happy hour down here, we started talking about a snoopy toy rod contest and I started drinking thinking.... (dangerous stuff) ::)
That led to the following post:

Quote
Real fishermen don't need no Stratdick reel or St Crotch rod (for y'all that'd be a Lame-azz-glass or a G. Loonie) to land good fish. Diamond Illusion Braid sounds like some fairy shizz for little girl's hair. What's next? My Little Pony bobbers!?!?!
Who's up for a lil contest to determine the REAL fisherman among us?.

I saw some little spinning rods in Walmart this morning. About a foot and a half long with a cheesy spinning reel in a variety of colors for $10 (think "cheap ice fishing rig") Looks like it might have 8# test mono and will probably explode if you hang a small blue gill.

Rulz?
Fish the Walmart "Nimrod" as it comes off the shelf. 3' mono tippet (#25 max) and what ever terminal gear your willing to risk. Biggest fish on that rig wins.

Prize?
Each entrant owes the winner one beer (preferably a $1 draft) at a happy hour of the winners choice* and Braggin rights till the next contest or happy hour. which ever occurs first.
Side-bets or pots optional.

So who's game? You man enuf?

*If you were real manly men, you'd have to drink them all at once. Problem is I just ain't that manly
:embarassed:   ;D

"Nimrod" as there is a fellow who is mercilessly maligned for promoting the Emmrod

An hour later this was posted and it was on.

1st Annual Nimrod Fishing Tournament Rules

**********Ok here is the official rules.**********
- All fish must be caught on this $10. cheap ass spinning outfit from Walmart. (I'll get a pic of it and post it)
- You can use what every pound test of line that you want as long as it is mono. (You can duck tape the reel to the rod)
- Longest fish wins and it needs to be on a measuring board or have a big ruler next to it. The rod/reel needs to be in the pics. All fresh and salt fish included.
- The tourny starts 0001 June 3rd - ends 2359 July 3rd.
- I'll put a thread in the fishing reports section that the pics can be posted on.
- Winner gets a cheap ass trophy that I'll find at the thrift store with their name on it. We will present the trophy at a happy hour.
- Kevin and I'll (Tim) judge the photos.

Personally, I think we should have stuck with the line that comes with it. But I was overruled. Somebody said the lil rods looked retarded and thus the TOT was born.

It should be fun and could be something you guys might consider as a foil to the AOTY. :dontknow:
I'll keep you posted on how I'll win this thing  ;D

We should do it during Friday pre-fish  at ORC.

Do we specify the model or just set requirements for those of us with kids that already own similar rods?  Obvious kids rod and/or small ice fishing rod like the one shown in Wali's post.

At some point while everyone is prefishing ORC on Friday afternoon we gather together in one area out on the water and declare it tiny rod time.  Who ever catches the biggest fish (with witnesses) on a tiny rod during that 30 min or hour wins.  Then we go back to regular fishing.

Scholars have long known that fishing eventually turns men into philosophers.  Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to buy decent tackle on a philosopher's salary.  ~Patrick F. McManus

Should be a pink Barbie rod.  Real fishermen won't care.

It is 4.5 feet and only if use 1 oz or less jigs. And you have to strip the reel and respool with mono only.... That JX hold a crap ton! I have over 600 yrds of braid on mine.

You guys should come over for a "STRANGE" fishing tourney.  Sometimes me and some buddies have one and the only rule is you have to use night crawlers on the bottom.  We have them on the Columbia so the possibilities are endless.  Payouts are for biggest fish and most species.  Sounds stupid but a good strange fishing hole a cooler of beer and some friends is tough to beat as far as good times.  Species caught so far during stange tourneys are SMB, LMB, perch, sculpin, walleye, carp, suckers, sturgeon, steelhead, catfish, pikeminnows, crappie, and crawdads.  Were still waiting for a bluegill or possibly a chinook to come in.

I think it would be even funnier to have a Ronco pocket fisherman derby, I checked online there still available, buy one get one free for $30. This would ensure a level playing field and the ultimate level of tardum.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.
