Kayak Fishing 101 at Next Adventure
« on: June 04, 2011, 10:53:22 pm »
Are you brand new to kayak fishing or know someone who might be interested in kayak fishing?

Bring your friends and join me at the Next Adventure Paddle Sports Center (SE 7th & Washington) on Wednesday, June 15th, from 7:00pm until... who cares?   ;D
I will be hosting a presentation on kayak fishing in the pacific northwest followed by a Q&A session.  This will be most helpful for you if you are just getting into the sport but even if you've been doing it for a while, you might learn some helpful info.   I'll be going over topics such as where to kayak fish in Northwest Oregon, basic fishing techniques for freshwater and saltwater, safety considerations, rigging a kayak for fishing, and much more.

Hope to see you there!

You mind if I repost this on another forum? It is free, right? I don't think I can make it but I might try and swing by.

Go right ahead, and thank you!  I have to be careful about where I post since some forums don't like businesses who aren't sponsors to post events and such, but you can feel free.  And yes, it is free.

Rawk, I have to say that you are doing the sport a great service for our local area, and I appreciate it very much.  I'm hoping to get a few of my newly kayaked friends to attend, as it will speed up their understanding of the ins and outs of ocean fishing from a much better source than my ramblings.

Do you plan to set up your camera(s) and film some of it?
It would be awesome to have as a sticky here on this website for future beginners, and for those that can't make it to the live seminar.

Thanks for spreading the word, buddy.  :)
This won't be a one-time thing, or at least I hope so.  I want to get this sort of thing going so it happens at least every other month or so.  So if someone can't make it this time, they'll have another chance a little later in the summer if not earlier.  I'm going to start with kayak fishing 101, which is geared more towards getting people familiar with the sport, but I'm also going to get an advanced kayak fishing class going too.  I don't think I'll need to get video of it since this won't be a one-time thing.  I will also have my full kayak setup there so people can ask questions or get ideas for rigging.

You go Rawky!

Let us know how turn-out was and what the main questions were.

Great idea.

As fuel costs continue to rise, kayak fishing will seem an increasingly affordable alternative to fishing from recreational boats IMHO.

Hope you get a good turnout

This will be worth it at many levels. Meet some of you other NWKA members maybe, narrow down some gear selection etc.I'll try to show, Unless I'm collecting gear for that weekend (ORC)

If you didn't make this you missed out!  Jeff did an awesome job presenting information, fielding questions and representing Kayak Fishing and NWKA!  Next Adventure came through with tasty pizza and cold oat sodas plus a generous discount for attendees.  Did I mention the turnout?  At least 25 people there!  Great turnout!    Nice job Jeff!  Next time one of these clinics rolls around make it a point to go... totally worth it!

Thanks guys!  A big thanks to everyone who came out!
The Paddle Center just went through a remodel, in fact, they had just got done putting the store back together about a half hour before people started showing up.  The place looks awesome!  Next has a couple of pics on their Facebook wall.  If you're on Facebook, make sure you "like" Next Adventure since that's an easy way to keep track of everything that's going on there.

That was a lot of fun!  I hope to do that again real soon - I'll be sure to post up when the next one is scheduled.
