1. All fish entered must be caught from a kayak, without the aid of a powerboat and using methods deemed legal by the state in which they are caught.

My question: If I want to fish the Chicken Ranch (7 miles out of Newport) can I use a water taxi (powerboat) as long as they drop me off, I catch and land the fish without their assistance, and take the taxi back in?  I guess it's a fine line.  They would not assist in the catching or landing of the fish.

How is that not using the aid of a powerboat?

Paddle yourself out to the ranch and your hali count, catch a tow and they don't.

Oh, and I've also been interested in taking up spearfishing lately.  How bout free-diving from a kayak to spear some fish?  Would that count since I'm not actually angling while seated in the kayak, but rather using it as my mode of transport and fish storage?

IMO no.  Doesn't "angler" have a hook and line connotation to it.  Spearfishing seems like hunting.

Do I need to sign-up for NWKA AOTY (angler of the year) to enter the NWKA (event) Tournaments?

Thanks

I spent the last hour looking for the answer but it wasn't really covered (that I could find)

Regarding rule #1

Thanks

Greg

I would check your map, the chicken ranch is way more than 7 miles, closer to 30.. Stonewall bank (the rockpile) is 7

No spearfishing, no boats, and if you can't keep the fish where you're fishing it doesn't count.

I think i know what the answer is, but...

If i pedal my butt off to get to a boat anchored in the river and tie off to that boat with a quick release and fish for a springer and hook a fish, release and fight and land the fish, would that be a legal AOTY fish?

Just checkin'...

Roy, if you never leave your kayak I'd probably just consider that the same as anchoring.  However, I must ask... Why not just use your anchor?

That's cool.

Well, i figure it would be easier because the area i was gonna try to fish is small and crowded and a pretty good current. It's gonna be a workout just getting to the spot.I wanna be fish on and gone and not have to pedal back upstream to get my anchor.  I figure, take a twelve pack and hold it up and say, "can i tie off to one of U's" . No PB'R could resist... :banjo:

That reminds of that song "redneck yacht club" - I love the words to that song.

Quote
i'm meeting my buddies out on the lake
we're headin out to a special place
we love that just a few folks know
there's no signing up, no monthly dues
take your johnson, your mercury or your evinrude and fire it up
meet us out at party cove
come on in' the waters fine
just idle on over and toss us a LIME (not line)

(Chorus:)
basstrackers, bayliners and a party barge,
strung together like a floating trailer park anchored out and gettin loud
all summer long side by side there's five houseboat front porches astroturf,
lawn chairs and tiki torches
regular joes rocking the boat that's us
the redneck yacht club

bermuda's' flip-flops and a tank top tan
popped his first top at ten a.m., thats bob
he's our president
we're checking out the girls on the upper deck rubbin' in 15 spf, its hot
everybody's jumpin' in
later on when the sun goes down
we'll pull out the jar and the old guitar
and pass'em around

I think we are at a good place with the AOTY. We have 32 adults so far(hopefully more to come) against 850 members.

NCKA has over 1760 members and 54 AOTY entrants.

We kick ass!!

I like the new fish pool so far, before it seemed whoever got a Sturgeon finished at the top. Now, i think someone can easily win without a Sturgeon. We will see how it looks in the end, it should be interesting.

I like the new format too.

I am going to see where I end up in the mix by only entering fish caught in saltwater (brackish bay water included).  No freshwater entries for me.  There are 10 species that can be caught in saltwater so thats my palate (Ling, rockfish, greenling, cabezon, surf perch, halibut, flounder, chinnook, coho, sturgeon).  I will of course fish for other AOTY species (love the kayak Smallmouth!) but just won't put them up for points.

Hey Mods, now that it seems like the bugs from the server move have been chased out, I have 2 requests for the home page. 1) To clear up some room on the home page, how about only showing the top 5 or 10 AOTY standings. 2) To take up that freshly cleared space, would it be possible to bring back the box that had links to the last 5 or so fish added as AOTY points?  :icon_cheers: :icon_cheers: :icon_cheers:

As always, you guys are the greatest mods on any board on the net...  :o
