With 36 hours left of AOTY '10 and Zee now atop the leaderboard, are there any changes in store for AOTY '11?

When can entry payments start being made?

The 2011 AOTY signup/pay pal link is now on the NWKA front page and also the AOTY rules page.   Still $40 and for the most part the rules are the same.  We might tweak a couple of the fish points per inch, but nothing major and those changes will happen soon.

I still need to re-work the AOTY site to set it up for 2011, but it will remain functional (you can upload your catch) until then.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Can I make entries caught from a Hobie Adventure Island or do I have to fish it as just an Adventure?

Thanks,

Wayne

the new page for adding fish for the 2011 AOTY is a day off on the drop down menu. Not a huge deal, but still kind  of a pain..

That's a damn fine question Wayne!

It hasn't been formally addressed but personally, I think the range gives the Adventure Island an unfair advantage.

Pole?  bstevs?  Zee?  What do you think?

I think it's generally agreed upon that for the AOTY kayak angling is human powered. We kind of touch on that in "without the aid of a powerboat". I guess it could be written that kayaks should all be w/o a motor or power source but if we get into too many specifics the rules pages will be nothing but tiny type.

I love the way you guys are running NWKA and I know you get lots of unsolicited feedback every year regarding adding and removing species, changing the point structure, etc.  But, have you considered allowing a wildcard species?  That way if someone caught a catfish, or some other species not common to the region, they would be able to get a few points.  Maybe 1 wildcard per angler, per year?

I like the idea of a wildcard, but we'd have to really think about how to structure it.  Not going to happen this year.  We thought we'd let the 2010 rules more or less continue as is, with some minor points per inch tweaks (which remind me, we need to do that still).

But ... in 2012, I think we have some exciting thinks in mind that will bring AOTY to a new level.  That's only 51 weeks away!!!

Yeah right, my first post and I didn't  introduce myself. Thanks coosbayyaker, I'm from Kamloops, BC. I wish that was me you saw trolling for salmon in the AI.

Long story short, I injured my arms on a rough lake trout trip where I was using a downrigger off my old yak. I was out for 6 weeks before trying to paddle again. I was in the market for a Hobie of some sort so that I could give my arms a break and came across a second hand AI (used 3 times) in White Rock with tramps and dodger for a reasonable price. There was some serious convincing that needed to be done with the wife as it wasn't exactly in the budget lol! I'm still paying back our savings but I have zero regrets. It's having some plates tacked to the rear crossbar today for fly rod/ downrigger mounts and I hope nothing gets screwed up. I noticed that 'Yak Monkey has one as I did a search on the site to make sure that I wasn't asking a question that's been answered, and has been looking for someone to go on a longer distance trip with these. That's my goal, to just disappear for a few weeks on the ocean with it. When you grab the wind in that thing it's an amazing feeling.

Anyway as far as the NWKA AOTY, I will not have it rigged as the AI. The last thing I want is to cause problems when half the idea is to connect with other yakers. There is an unfair advantage when you can troll for miles without paddling or pedaling. The most I'll do is to have one ama-aka on when flyfishing as that's no different than a Freeedom Hawk or stabilizers already used by some. I didn't fish out of the AI last year either and it doesn't make sense in a lot of places anyway.

I'll register soon and look forward to a fun year of fishing with you guys.

Cool Wayne,  I'm sure Brian(yak Monkey) would be excited to find someone to sail off to some wild fishing adventures with.

You found the right place....

Wondering what folks think about this new extend-able bumper board from Plano.

The only problem I can see is that if you didn't extend it all the way, you could get a false measurement so it may be important to have the junction visible in any photo when extended for measurements over 19". I know that the hawg trough seems to be standard issue around here, but this extends a little further, floats, and would probably store on board a little better.

The downside I can see is that it might be flimsy when extended out.

It looks like the first tab locks into the second tab when extended? They should have printed the scale in black instead of white, it would be more contrast and easier to see in sunny day photos.
