Crabbing the week of feb 6th?
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:10:04 pm »
I think I am going to go some day that week.  I have to do some research on spots this time of year.

I have to go out of town again the next week, and I am itching for some bugs to eat...

I might stop and try again to catch some steelhead as well.  Hopefully with a little more success this time.

Sinker,

I'm back next Sunday, we should try Nehalem if the Dungies are crawlin'. There's also Steelhead in the river. Maybe SteveHawk wants to guide us? I may spend the night there and make it more worth the drive. Let me know if you're up for it.

I would like to go out next week also. Monday the 6th looks the best for tides. We should be on the water by 8:30. Since there is a minus tide following, we should be off by 1:00.

It would like to try a few ideas for some steelhead in-between pulls.

We drove by the Nahelem last week and it was way up and really brown.

I'm not sure where it will be Monday, but we might not have tons of luck with the bugs there.

I have been interested to try Tillamook or Netarts too, but I am game for whatever.  Really its all fun.

Wheeler on the Bay Marina looks like a great place to spend the night (or a week!) at Nehalem Estuary. Reasonable access to both the Bay and River for fishing and crabbing. Rates are just $77/night.

This stretch of dry weather should boost the salinity levels in the bays and bring a few more in from the open water. Good luck!

If the wind doesn't come up too strong, Monday might be an OK day for some bottom fish.

Monday looks pretty breezy at Nehalem, 15 knot east winds. Probably better not venture out of the estuary.

I fished the North fork yesterday. Was going to fish the estuary and decided against it. There was alot of stuff in the water.  Ended up fishing the bank up by the hatchery. Caught two metalheads and went home.   I too, feel that Monday may be a bit dicey. Later in the week may be better.

I guess I'll go on weather stand by.

I probably will not be able to go over night.  I have a lot off work to do before my next trip.

Sounds fun guys, I've got to work but maybe next time. What does a basic crab starter package look like?

Noah there's a thread about which rings are the best.  I like the rings best if I am mostly after crab.

You can take 3 out and I think they run about 30 bucks.

Spot suggested a collapsible wire trap if you want to drop one when fishing off the coast though.
