This is all really great insight.  I'm a huge fan of crowdsourcing info, so thanks to all for providing advice, and any more is always welcome!

Now I'm thinking of trying Depoe Bay for bottom fish or crab, given the right weather and water conditions with a partner or two, and having Newport Bay as a Plan B.

do not go to depoe bay without being with or preferably having ur own vhf radio on channel 80 to announce ur either inbound or outbound.  u don`t want to be in that hole/slot with a charter boat for one coming at u, could be really bad.
bad case scenario: ur out there and ur dam radio malfunctions and ur coming back in... before entering the hole/slot, stop! blow the hell out of a airhorn or a whistle and then wait, if u hear nothing on the other side say a prayer and GO. carry as u should always a signaling device. i use a whistle now as airhorns corrode, get shitty after couple trips.

what is ur experience? u have all gear?

depoe or other look for calm winds 8 knots or less with 4 foot or less swell. magic seaweed:  http://magicseaweed.com/Lincoln-City-Surf-Report/316/  for depoe eyeball lincoln city.

also NOAA: http://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-124.06870&lat=44.82403#.WaMx18iGMdU they have map that can "zoom" in on waters pretty much right where u want to fish.

also keep eye on web cams"depoe bay-national weather service": http://www.northwestwebcams.com/oregon-web-cams.shtm especially look at these few days before going as it can change and quick.

alot of times i head out on spur moment but mostly post here open invites too as others do. definitely plan for ORC.

And don't try to go in a short window - which is about all we'll see this time of year.  If you can see a forecast for three or more days of calm conditions, that's worth considering, but trying to hit a one-day window seldom pans out.
I expected the worst, but it was worse than I expected...

i forgot one other thing, the coast guard bar report:  http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pqr/marine/BarObs.php  if it`s anything other than green it is a no go. the ramp at depoe has bar lights that flash if it`s a no go too when there. also paybox  at top of ramp....no pay envelopes just drop 2 bucks in there. stay tuned on that fees maybe going up this year.

What are everyone's opinions on Jackson Cudas for this style of fishing? Looking to upgrade my basic 10' entry level this spring and have seen a few used Cudas for sale.

Not sure you'll find an answer here, but NorCal Kayak Anglers has a forum topic on Jackson Kayaks: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?board=62.0

Hydrospider has posted some great experiences he's had doing wild things in a Coosa and I think he knows as much (probably more) about them as anyone in our area.  You might want to ask him about the Cuda.

Awesome Mojo Jojo...I'll take you up on that in the Fall when the weather is nice.  I used to crab Tilly a lot with a Smokercraft and limited every time.  Would love to try from my Native.
