Glad they got caught.  Poaching occurs  with all types of boats, kayakers included, unfortunate but true.

Or the other one who is hiding lingcod in his hull down here. It would be nice if they published names so we k know who did it. Making an innocent mistake is one thing. Hiding fish and gross overlimits show intent and that takes it to a whole other level.

Only the 54 extra fish were donated to the foodbank.   So they let them keep the 1st 21???

apparently so.   All of the catch should have been confiscated,  including their boats and gear, and a week in county lockup.   >:( >:(

Very sad. I have not heard of this, but a small town it is and I hope to find out in a day or two. If a local, I will know them, or of them. However many folks travel and stay here to fish, and many of them have no scruples.

Agreed!

I wouldn't expect anything less if I was dumb enough to try and do that.

That's pretty great.  A couple things strike me as I read the thread:

1.  I wish he took pictures of the perps.
2.  The guy who suggested that people who turn in poachers should get extra preference points for big game tag draws in on to something.  That's a great idea.
3.  Dude's got giant balls of steel for doing what he did, presumably outnumbered vs. criminals.  That's awesome.

Saw the mention of the kayak fisherman in the NW Sportsman article - my thoughts have been echoed above.

The link about the guy catching the poachers and getting LEO there is great. I've witnessed a couple of unethical practices here and there but only one time when I was pretty sure someone was actually straight up poaching. Unfortunately I had no proof. I would hope if I came across something like that I'd have the presence of mind to do the same thing. Good on 'em!

RCMP does not mess around with that stuff.

I have an idiot cousin who was snagging salmon in front of a BC hydro dam on a trip up there 20+ years ago. There was no passage for the fish so he figured they were just going to go to waste. The dam operator dropped a dime on him. RCMP flew in the next day. The officer told my cousin "I'm not going to check your freezer, but if I get wind of you engaging in this type of activity again I can guarantee that you won't be leaving Canada for a very long time."
