Newport Breakwater Trip for Bivalves today and tomorrow?

I finally got out in my kayak after having no way to transport it to a launch since I moved to Newport over two years ago. My plan was to hit the breakwater for some blue clams and then jiggle some herring up afterwards on the incoming and play with my new-to-me PA sail rig on the cruise back to the Science Center landing. The first part of the plan went great. The north wind put a dent in the other parts but it was nice just drifting back to the beach with the current and wind doing all of the work. I might give it another shot tomorrow if anyone's interested. Razor's were not from the breakwater

What time did you launch?
I checked out the Hatfield Marine Science Center as a possible launch location and found it to be way too muddy to launch a kayak - I was sinking in and suctioning to the mud - no way could I drag a kayak through that until it could float.
Curious where you launched and timing on the proximity to the tide (maybe I just needed to launch and leave closer to high tide).

I launched right at the low tide yesterday which I believe was a -1.8. It wasn't bad at all. Maybe the extreme low gave the beach time to dry out a bit.

When I launch from the Hatfield Marine Science Center, I actually launch from the public parking lot just north of the building.

You can rig up your kayak right there in the parking lot, and roll it north towards the bay a few yards.  Then you slide it down a small sand/rock drop off (it's not too bad, but a buddy helps keep the wheels attached).  Then roll it another few yards down to the water.  Its all normal beach sand/rock so you don't sink.  Hop in and go straight out between the two docks.  You will be in the main stream of the bay at this point.

Thanks!  That's where I was....pretty muddy the day I was there.  With these high exchanges, maybe it's firmed up.  I'll try it again.  Thanks.
