Awesome job! You were in the right place at the right time. At least you were able to save one in that family, Rory. So sad about the mother.

Wow that story is even more amazing than your first report led us to believe. It is refreshing to see such a good act getting such great press.

Nice job, Rory.  Keep the dog.  A more obvious sign was never encountered.  And, no wonder the dog was so beat, it had run from Florida to Bellingham!

Good work Rory!  I saw your video linked on norCal kayak anglers yesterday.  I have a vizsla who, as it happens, was hit by a car the day after Christmas this year and took off.  Some kind soul, much like you, found him and he was returned to me.  It is heartening to see good hearted people getting good press.  You are a great face for our sport, thank you so much.

If you get down Humboldt way the beer is on me.

I have a Viszla as well! I know that if I ever go fishing in the ocean with my dog (Buster) I am going to make sure that I go with Rory (for Buster) and kallitype (for me). I would be able to fish fearlessly under those circumstances :)

What a sad story...
I am so happy you were there to help salvage one small piece from this tragedy for the family. The poor pooch was obviously completely disoriented. Probably would have swam until it drowned had it not been for you.
On another note--there is a link on the Drudge Report to the video too. Darned near as big time as CNN!

Read this and then decide for yourself, do you think PETA will reward Rory as they did for the fellows in the story below?
He did save the life of a dog, regardless if he was fishing for sea kittens.  :-\

I'm an idiot for not putting two and two together!  Awesome job Rory!  First time I read it on a national site it was in Florida so I was thinking cool.  But now that I saw it on a Seattle paper and then this topic, INFINITELY cool!  Sad about the circumstance but amazingly awesome outcome for the dog.  Good job!
