Started off looking for halibut in around 200' of water. No luck after two hours so headed to the reef. I cruised around in an area I had wanted to hit and found the kind of structure I was looking for. Had some tugs in the first several minutes so I knew a ling was making hits. Then the tug was hard. The fish just swam along the bottom as if I had no control. Eventually I got it near the surface but it dove hard. It made my reel sing several times. Finally when it came into view I thought it was a cabby, because it's head was so huge, but then I got a closer look. The 31" ling looked like a baby next to this one. Lingzilla was 42" and weighed 27lbs. My full stringer was 45lbs as I stopped at three rockfish.

Nice job!!  That is an amazing fish.  Today was a great day to be fishing PC.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

What can I say that hasn't been said....maybe.... What the hell were you using for bait a whole intact chicken on a shark hook :o I'm surprised that thing didn't eat your boat. You can be proud of that fish for many years to come as a true yak achievement.

A caught this on a large lancer jig that I got at ORC a few years ago. The rubber part is rather shredded now.
