Was hoping for some calm water today. Just drove down from Soldotna (grateful that I don't have the drive from Anchorage like so many of you). It's windy and fairly rough. Last time I tried to trawl with winds, it was quite ineffective due to my inability to maintain anything that resembled a constant speed....too fast when going with the wind and too hard to get up enough speed when pedaling against the wind and tide. I'm sitting here watching a power boat out there doing a lot of rocking and rolling.

Yes, I'm whining because I'm leaving town for 3 weeks on Monday. Was sure hoping to catch a November fish!

The winds are fluctuating quite a bit. I'm going to give it a try. It was all I could stand to watch the power boat bring one in! I'll let you know how it goes.

I did a lot of fishing, but no catching....and no hook ups either. It was still better than working!

Thanks for the report. Trolling in wind is definitely challenging. If I can get the house ready for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, I'll consider fishing on Sunday. That is, weather permitting.

Glad to see you made it back....too bad its such a short stay before heading out again. Thanks for the report. I still have a lot of experimental rigs/baits yet to try this winter. Its definitely more challenging running a single line than Shane running 4 downriggers where he can have something different on every rod and know just what the fish are favoring on any given day. Speaking of gear, my Penn Squall 25N just arrived and I will be adding 450 yds of 50# powerbraid as my kayak rig on a med heavy 8' Daiwa.  6.0 : 1 gear ratio on the reel bringing in 40" of line per handle revolution. The ultimate reel in keeping the line tight when they are charging the boat!!

Hoping to eventually see you out there later this winter on the next big Pineapple Express!  NOAA long range forecast just announced the Arctic Ocean is at an unprecedented high temperature for this time of the year and expect a lot of warm jet stream weather this winter to keep the Bering Sea and Arctic Ocean areas far above winter norms. Hopefully we will benefit from that too over here on the "sidelines."
