Hi All,
Cord here. I am a new member of the Northwest Kayak Anglers. I live in The Dalles Oregon.
I taught biology in The Dalles for 34 years and retired 17 years ago. To keep you from having to do the math, I will turn 73 in 4 days. Now what is an old timer like me going to do on a kayak? I have a jet boat and have fished the Columbia from one type of a craft or another for over 45 years.
I hunt pretty much everything from moose to rabbits and geese to doves, but my true love is duck hunting. And that brings me to the kayak. I am getting slower at walking my 2 and a half miles up the Deschutes to my duck blind and hunting there is only good for a few weeks a year when the weather is really nasty.
I am thinking that I can use a kayak to get to some of the islands in the Columbia, transport my dog, decoys and gear to the island and then use the kayak as a layout blind.
I bought a Nucanoe Frontier 12 and have ordered a layout blind to fit the kayak.
I am going to start bass fishing around those same islands as soon as the weather starts to warm up in order to learn to handle the kayak and to teach the dog her limitations on board,
Now that I am a kayak owner, my imagination is starting to run and I am looking for other places I might use it. Who knows, you might see a jet boat for sale posted on here soon.

Welcome.  I retired a couple years ago and had planned on buying a nice welded aluminum boat for fishing.  After getting started with the kayak, I no longer have any desire to buy a power boat.

I think you are really going to enjoy fishing opportunities that the kayak allows.  It is very addictive. I get up fishing near The Dalles once in a while, so we may see you around.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.
