Bosch components are very modular and easy to customize to any design. The extrusions are strong, just be sure to mount them to the frame or chassis (not the sidewalls).  I had two designs for my trailer and decided to go with steel tubing because it was much cheaper!

No kayak trailer is going to crash your car because of tongue weight.  A 5000 pound car on a 2000 pound trailer will though.

Maybe if someone was towing an overloaded kayak trailer with two PA14's behind a Prius with negative tongue weight.    8)

But, I agree, most kayak trailer setups are light enough that they shouldn't pose much threat to the tow vehicle.  You can experience tail whip that can flip a trailer, but highly doubt it would affect the forward momentum of a truck or midsized car.

Negative tongue weight is bad and can actually cause your ball and hitch to separate in the up stroke of a bounce, if it doesn't flip first it will usually result in a nice series of dents pounded into the back of the tow rig as you come to a stop.

Positive tongue weight should be at least 10% of the weight of the entire loaded trailer weight.  Any less than that and it's a gamble if loads shift on you.

Pay attention to too much tongue weight if you are using a class 1 hitch.  It has the least amount of strength when it comes to leverage.  200# is the rated max for tongue weight.

If you want a cheap and easy rack, but two 72 inch pieces of 1" (inside measurement) steel tubing, wipe the grease off with solvent, spray paint it, and mount it to your Snowbear with 4 U bolts from Home Depot.  It doesn't get any easier. I can get two Outbacks side by side laying flat upside down, or three kayaks if I use J-cradles.  I bought a 12 foot piece and cut it with a sawzall, but the steel yard will cut it for you for a fee. If you are in the PDX metro area, go to Clackamas Steel because they cut with a saw so the cut is clean and fairly square and they have good prices. Other places I have been cut at approximately  the spot you want with a torch so it looks crappy.  https://www.facebook.com/Clackamas-Steel-Mfg-Inc-141470222559712/  Pardon the ugly tarp. I took it off quick just for these pictures. The rack removes in minutes and takes up little storage space so I can still use the trailer for other stuff like hauling mulch or yard waste.

Thanks for all the input everyone!  Mojo, I would have jumped all over that offer except me and the boy spent the last couple evenings throwing something together.  Not quite as fancy as some of the ones I've seen but it should work.  I'll put up a picture when we finish up.

Found two of these helpful loading and unloading my Outback.  I slide them on to load/unload and slide them off after.
