Thanks
I can't figure out how to get that picture right side up.

I think it would be cleaner with a rotating base so you could keep it all over the gunnel without having it hang over the side, but that is like 80.00 and I am cheap.  It will look a little cleaner once I paint the starboard black.

Nice looking install.  Is it bolted directly to your kayak, or it the whole thing removable?

This is a downrigger input on an outback it is easily removable if you've got to paddle and swivels out of the way or to the rear for less drag. It is a depthmaster on a swivel base attached to a 4 in pvc. Art

The mount is all bolted down, the downrigger can slide out.  I will take it apart get more pictures to post.

I don't know how to write between pictures so I will just do multiple posts.  Here are all the pieces.  I essentially mounted the downrigger base to starboard with 4 tapered bolts.  This was then mounted to the kayak with two long tapered bolts and I used another piece of starboard for backing.

Because of how it lined up on the boat I had to place one of the long bolts into the starboard before attaching the base.  In order to tighten it to the boat I ended up drilling a hole through the base to give me access to the bolt.

Extra hole is due to failure on my part to measure twice and drill once.  I had to adjust the angle out more so the cable would clear the side of the boat.

I used a piece of starboard for backing under the gunnel where it attaches.  I have a picture of how it goes together out of the boat so you can see it.

I drilled holes through the boat where the long bolts will go.  I wanted to keep them mid line in a place where if I decide to later I can mount gear track over the top of them.  I am just really cheap right now and couldn't get to a place that has the gear track I want.  In the future I will mount 8" gear track over those holes and re-mount to the gear track which will make it easier to remove.

Once mounted now I can slide the downrigger on and off,  but leave the base attached.  Most of my fishing involves use of the downrigger, so it doesn't bother me too much.

Your set up looks nice.  I like the rotating base and would have loved to use that on mine, but it is like 80.00 and I am cheap.

How did you attach your set up to the kayak?

Sweet! Thanks for posting. I just finished installing a Penn DR on my outback. You inspire me to post when I get the time.
Looks like you'll be ready for Kokanee on American. Hope to see you out there.
