A T-15 or something and a sinking line should do the trick I would imagine, if you're patient enough to let it sink that far (not me).  Could always just spool on some lead core line if you're just trolling and not casting and strip out what you need.  At that point you're crossing over into the gear versus fly zone, imo, and may be better off just putting a heavy line on a cheap spin reel and putting that on the fly rod for funsies.  Ya'll got into fish without getting that technical, though, so good on you.  I would have loved to cast at the swarmers on a floating line.  OPST commando lines would be super fun on the ocean, but then I'd be deciding between a single hand 8wt or a bastard sword rod and back to heavy sink tips.  I'd love to go out with ya'll sometime and try a fly fish only day.  Nothing better to improve your technique than have no other options. :)
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

From a fun perspective I think the fly rod gives the barbie rod a run for the money, but I need to find a way to get a fly down 40 ft.
We were trolling clousers with a sink tip.  I also learned that with a long leader and light hook, it is really easy to hook yourself.

Does that mean you caught the biggest ?  >:D

Zach, Cosmo, etc. - I was going to paddle over to you guys and say hi but my fishing buddy (BogFrogDawg) had an OTW "incident" and had to go in, so I escorted him back to the surf to make sure he was OK and then headed out again, and by then I'd lost track of you guys. (I'll let him tell the story if he wants to.)

I'm glad someone found good lingcod - I sifted through a bunch and never found any big ones, trying new places on the reef and expanding my range from my go-to spots.

I stayed on the water about 8 hours (until about 2:30) and by the time I went in it was pond-calm at the launch.

Thanks for the surf warning Captain Redbeard. Did you happen to see they guys in the Costco Kayaks and shorts you mentioned?  I didn't hear about them on the news, so I'm guessing they managed to get back in.

Great video Cosmo.  It looked like a great day out on the water.

Actually it was my BIL (BogFrogDawg) radioing to me (I was still on the water). I never actually saw them. I looked around the rock for them later but my guess is they got cold quickly and went in (I hope!).

I couldn't believe how much calmer it was when I came in later in the early afternoon - it was just dead.

Thanks for the video! I'm jealous of the keeper blue ling - I haven't seen enough of those on the end of my line lately.

That was a pretty fish, and my second keeper for the day.  10 minutes later, I caught an even bigger blue ling, and had to send him back for next time.  They are pretty awesome fish.

I only picked up the pot once, and it had 5-6 large females and one sub-legal male.  I heard a few other guys picked up a few legal crabs further south than where I dropped.
