Sorry if I missed a classifieds section here, I did look but did not see.

I'm looking to sell one of my basic sit in Kayaks for a Hobie Pro Angler 12, 14 or 17 peddle Kayak.   I'm a bit concerned about the fact that the 17 weighs 200lbs!  How the hell do you get that on top of your car and or to the water??

Just wondering if there is a home for this type of post here?  Any thought would be great.

Thanks,

A

You don't. You get a trailer.

And if you decide that you don't want to trailer the PA17, and insist that it needs to go on a roof rack, be sure to have a few strong buddies with you or plan on back surgery in your future.  :o

There are lots of videos on youtube of kids and women clean and jerking 200 lbs.  With a bit of weight training OP could do it himself with good form, loading from the back with hullyrollers.

I own the PA17, it is great but it is a monster.  I like the fact I can take the kids, wife and or dog out (not in that order).  I'm a big hombre so I  enjoy the extra room and stability.

Mine is trailered and I have a cart if I need to launch where there is no ramp.  After reading many posts from this site, I'm not so sure a beach launch would be a good idea, but it may just be as conditions dictate.

I know folks who own PA 14's and can't turn them right-side up if they roll them, even in a calm lake, unless their feet are standing firmly on the bottom.  You might want to think about that before worrying about getting one on a roof rack.

Not everyone has that problem, but it's worth a bit of thought.

I recently bought the PA 12 (~ 105 lbs fitted hull weight) and the Rhino T loader.  I am able to get the kayak on the (4runner) rack by myself. ( I am not that tall nor strong, mind you). It is pretty do-able with the T loader ( and a cooler since I am short).

Granted, It took a bit of a learning to get the yak on and off the rack.  HOWEVER, If you have the option of getting a trailer for it, please see the above comments!!
