My Dad passed away last Thursday. He was passionate about hunting and fishing. After a long couple weeks Away from home I arrived back home last night. This morning I decided to go fishing. After about an hour of trolling one of my rods started peeling line off. I grabbed my rod and held on for the sleigh ride. The fish damn near spoiled me and I thought I was done and all of a sudden my reel falls completely off my rod into the kayak. I knew I was screwed. I put the reel back on the rod, start reeling and the fish is still on. I got it in and netted it. I don't know how I didn't lose the fish. This fish is for my Dad!

I am sorry to hear about your dad, Mike - it is good you got out fishing for a bit.

Way to go with catching that salmon - I would have liked to see you fumbling around for that reel!

Thanks guys.  I know he'd want me to be out fishing in the great outdoors.  I.m pretty sure he played a part in me catching that salmon.  I went out again tonight and had one on for about 5 seconds and it got off.  I'm sure there'll be more.

I made it out fishing again and was able to catch another salmon. The fish this year are a lot bigger. This one fought like crazy. I didn't think he was ever going to give up. I fish two rods and by the time I got him in the net I had a mess. It was well worth it though. I had another one on later, but he got away.

Mike,
Sorry to hear about our dad.  Nice tribute to him.  Fishing is good therapy.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

I made it out fishing yesterday morning.  I was able to catch two more salmon. I caught one, got my lines back in the water and was filling out my catch card when all of a sudden I had another on. I got that fish in and put on the stringer. I rebated the super bait, got the lines back out and was texting while trolling the revo when my rod started peeling off line. It caught me a little off guard and I got too excited and I tightened my drag too much and my trailing hook broke off. It was a lot of fun for an hour or so. I had two other takedowns, but they didn't stick. The fish here are darker, but they still taste good.
