Let's have a little fun and raise some money for the North Oregon Coast  H.O.W. Chapter.
As the title states it's a race:
Two categories peddle kayaks , paddle kayaks

$35 donation $10 per head for buffet ($10 per non participants kids 14 and under $5) we are only paying the cost of food then 1st place paddle & peddle get 5% of the pot 2nd place gets 3% and 3rd gets 2% so the more guys we get the more the top 6 get.

Course will be the Nehalem river starting above the Miami Rv Rd bridge at Roy Creek boat launch at 0600 and ending At the highway 101 bridge.
Parking fees at the county parks at both ends are donated by the county parks department. We will need to coordinate shuttling to limit upper end parking so those with extra room speak up.

Rules: no sails or motors (peddle or paddle only) must have full salmon gear on board including your net (salmon net not trout, as in the same gear you will fish with after!) Starting line will be standing start next to your ride and at the starting you mount and go. First 3 peddles and first 3 paddles to cross under the bridge will take placing.

We're going to have or June HOW event 8 seats starting at 9:00 am and running till 2:00 pm to hopefully get our heroes into some springers.
Registration attached and check (Shannon Anderson) or cash with registration. And if you would like to PayPal please pm or email me first.
The banquet after will be pizza buffet and minors will be permitted during our event. Non participants will be $10 for buffet $5 for kids 14 and under.

Im talking with The Manzanita Lighthouse Pub-N-Grub about holding the after event there but being a bar and no minors allowed, were working on seeing what we can do that's if there's enough guys that would want to buy lunch or dinner. Still in the talks and nothing in stone. Date ideas would be good  :banjo:

Without question I would lose the race, but wouldn't mind a little friendly fishing competition  ;D

I think the race will be won by one of the flatbellies in a Revo. Just a hunch.

Regardless of who places first in pedal or paddle devision I think all the competitors as well  H.O.W.  N.O.C. will be the winners. Plus you can't go wrong with salmon fishing with the rest of crew from NWKA.

This would be the proposed course red dot to the blue dot, do we got enough interest to plan it?
First part will be mostly a "drives" out of the water for the peddle yaks as its shallow with some submerged logs.

The more I tinker with this idea the more likely it will happen and with any luck we will be able to include the buffet FOOD ONLY (drinks available but all your own $$ and responsibility)in the entry fee $35-$40 keep your eyes open. A little kayak birdie whispered in my email that N.A. might be interested in having an interest in a slice of this pie.  Also we will need to make a pre event dry run casual fishing float to estimate the leisurely time frame ( for the not so flat ab paddle & peddle yakers), I will post an open invite if you're interested in joining for a look at the natural obstacles on the course.

Sorry if I'm annoying anyone but it's damn hard looking out the window at the bay every day and not be sitting in a plastic boat fishin, so the noodle starts to wonder.... full circle .... but don't worry I read somewhere that " NOT all that wonder are lost..... but where the he!! is the road!!!"

Still working on some details but it's definitely ON. Tentatively 0600 start time what's the 0 for ? Oohh that's early... but an 8 am low tide so hopefully we can complete the race in 2 hrs and then take a break fish the incoming and have a buffet lunch. More details and rules to come.

Updated: looks to be between 4-5 nautical miles from the google site, someone got a better app to double check that.

We will be getting parking passes from Tillamook County Parks Department so the finish line will be the 101 bridge with pull out at the boat ramp just east of 101 bridge since our passes are good at both lots. We will need to buddy up for those that can transport multiple yaks and park as many as we can at the Nehalem boat ramp so we can limit the drop in lot parking (small lot).

I might be up for a dry run to check out time and water depth. But I think 9:00 would be a great time to start. I'm old and need my sleep.Would also like to check out paddle verse peddle on a 5 mile run.
