Well i made my first trip out to Sekiu today, and boy am I ever glad i did. Launched at first light and was instantly marking fish. Started in 80fow and droppped the downrigger down to 30ft. Wasnt long before the tip was dancing, and reeled in a shaker. Stayed in 80 and ended up getting another shaker about a hour later. I seen alot of bait surfacing in close so i went to 50fow and dropped down to 25ft on the downrigger, and before i could even get my rod in the holder the fight was on! This beast tore out 50 ft of line instantly, and dragged me around like a rag doll for 15 minutes before i managed to net him. He tipped the scales just shy of 29lbs. A great way to start the year.

Thats a beauty of a Beast way to go Jake & thanks for sharing! You could call one of those bites luck but it sounds like you have it dialed in. You'll always remember this one.

Awesome fish!  Nice job dialing in to the bite.

Thanks for all the awesome positive feedback guys. Deffinetly will be a fish i remember for some time now. Iv caught 50lb kings in the river, but almost always they are boots. This was for sure my best king.

Grilled up a slab for dinner last night for my better half and I and the oil content was amazing. The rest has been smoking for the last 10 hours. Almost done! Yummmm!

That beginning reel screaming must have been such a rush! I've only caught one salmon in the salt and never even got to touch it but when it hit it was such a feeling! (Coho from a Westport charter last year).

jakeandrae, I was chatting with VIKINGTTT and he said I should hit you up for a trip up there. Looking to get out in more open water than Puget sound and  he said you were a good guy to talk to about it.
They might sound ill advised, but when I tell folks of my exploits, it's rare I don't find them smiling
