It ain't the most delicious quarry, but the tug is the drug, right?

After putting 30+ miles in the salt this weekend and coming up nearly completely short, I hit the duwamish in the yak today after work. Quick and easy limit of a very nice grade pinks in 1.5 hrs. Light tackle, jigging pink stuff, chase the schools = success.

Go get em boys!

I spent hours in Elliott Bay this weekend with no luck and suspected if I paddled up to the Duwamish after it opened on Sunday that I'd probably have a bit better luck - thanks for confirming it. I bike commute along a portion of the river and always look at

thinking it'd be an OK spot to launch from if you didn't mind trailering your kayak from the parking area. I live about a mile from here so I'll be trying to hit the spot up a lot over the next month.

Do the tides seem to make much of a difference in the bite? I might give it a shot Saturday afternoon, but it looks like I'd be putting in around low tide.

I spent about 3 hours today watching pinks rolling and jumping in the late afternoon but saw no hookups among any of the boats near me including myself. I was marking them on the finder but didn't get as much as a nibble. I might try again in the morning. The little beach park in South Park is a way better place to launch than the park I mentioned earlier.

Tried again this evening - 3 for about 12 in a few short hours after work. Killer bite right at high slack!

Craig, was that you out there on the paddle yak? I'm in a white 16' hobie adventure.

Yup, that was me. I was out in an older Pescador 120, suffering from serious hobie envy. I didn't paddle nearly as far as you covered, if you don't mind me asking, I'm guessing most of your success today was upriver from where I launched?

Ah, i didn't go too far.

Yesterday I did well by the bridge around high slack.

Today I only got one in that area, and then went a few hundred yards upstream from the bridge when I saw a huge school boiling in the weeds. Like, literally, right next to the grass in just a few feet of water. Then it was game on! Multiple strikes on numerous casts. About the most fun i've had salmon fishing in a while.

I'll likely be out tomorrow around 5-sunset again if you'd like to join.

I do plan on being back out tomorrow late afternoon, after watching two huge multi-person boats launched from that park I'm unabashed about launching there. I'll keep an eye out!

There's a bunch of fish there but you will have to put in your time.  I spent about 5 hours yesterday below the South Park Bridge starting at daylight .  I landed and kept 5 but lost many.  It was hit or miss for the bank anglers that were throwing buzz bombs.  My buddy landed a 7.5 lber.  Bleed em and put them on ice and they smoke up quite well~  My report and photos here https://www.facebook.com/pg/KayakFishingWashington/photos/?tab=album&album_id=942224999249135

I should also note to watch the tides. I put my Outback when the tide was up when I pulled out it was negative.  Had to wade through a ton of mud in my flip flops getting out.  Would have been tough in my Pro Angler.
