Caught a few small LMB on a perch color rattle trap. Didn't photo them for ATOY, because they would only get upgraded for sure. I was somewhat impressed to see such a small bass eat a full sized rattle trap. They are in pre-spawn, and hanging out around points on the weed beds in 8-12 FOW. 4 other guys in 2 different boats limited out on planted trout, as did a bald eagle. I saw that eagle pull 3 trout out of there in the 3 hours or so I fished. I predict the bass fishing will get a lot better in a couple of weeks. Found some great areas they will be moving to spawn, and bed. Might go back in the morn (if I can get a kitchen pass) to pick up a few trout for the gill.

That sounds like a good plan for Sunday.  My little boy and I are planning some... i live less than a mile from there.  Never knew it had fish in it!

Where do you launch at?

Take 25th Ave SE off of Ruddell, then a right on Hicks Lake rd SE, on your left just after the park you'll see a sign for public fishing. Pull in there, and it will open up to a parking lot with a boat launch. I have done best trolling small unweighted gold spinners, or red wedding ring spinner with a gold blade. I paddle/troll strait at the point across from the boat ramp, and make a big circle around that end of the lake somewhat hugging the long weedline on the south end of the lake, and back to the point again. Troll just fast enough to get a good rotation on your spinner, and let a good 50 yards or so out of your reel. I recommend getting there early. 0600-0630 on weekends, and 0700-0730 weekdays. It's a small lake, so it doesn't take many PBs to end your day of fishing.

Hicks is only a mile or two from me as well. Shoot me a pm whenever you want to go fish. I do a lot in the salt, but starting to explore our freshwater a lot more this year. Fri will be my next opportunity to get out. May troll Hicks for a couple hours that morn, then most likely meeting up with hendog on Mayfield for some potential musky Sat.
