Ordered my very first Hobie Outback Monday.  Got delivery confirmation for today.  At 4:45pm it came off the truck.  At 5pm it went back in the truck.  Thought about just pushing it in from the inside but I just could not stomach accepting a brand new kayak this way.  What do you guys think?  Got only one photo because I was too frustrated.  This was the stern very close to the rudder.  Delivery guy did not let me open the whole thing since I was declining it.

I wouldn't have accepted delivery either.   That looks not good.

How very frustrating.  And no way in hell do you accept delivery.

That is a real bummer. A no-brainer to send this back indeed and wait for a new one.

Yup, bummer.  Felt like the day Seahawks lost to Patriots.  Sooo close, just to lose it all.

It will buff out.  Kidding.

Decline all the way. You pay for a brand new and it comes like that. Hell no!

That will undoubtedly be sold as a "Factory discount" Model at 25% off. I would have definitely rejected it as well.

Get one locally.  Gig Harbor Watersports has/had a couple of demos they were discounting.  Not sure if they are taken yet.

I would have done the same thing, you pay a good penny for a Hobie and you expect it to come to you like new.

+1

Most of the shops get kayaks by the truckload direct from the mfr. Kayaks aren't likely to damage other kayaks if the load shifts. If you order one from a distant retailer it will be shipped to you via an LTL (less than truckload) carrier. It will ride with a variety of heavy freight with sharp corners and be unloaded and reloaded at multiple transfer terminals, greatly increasing chances for damage.

Many LTL carriers won't even accept kayaks due to the high claim rates. For this reason kayaks are classified in the most expensive category of items to ship. Even if a website says "free shipping" ultimately you are paying the freight. If you think you are getting a good deal from someone in TX or VA call your local shop and tell them you would really like to support local businesses and ask them to match or beat the price you were quoted. Also a drive to Kayak Shed or Next Adventure will save you the sales tax and should be enough savings to pay for your gas and time.

I highly recommend Kayak Shed in Hood River. I drove down from Everett to buy my 2017 PA12. I saved $330+ on sales tax, got 15% discount on accessories and a free T shirt.
