Does that mean about 6:30 or 7?  I can sleep in! Leaving at 5am is a lot nicer than 3:30 for some reason.
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

Yes it was an awesome day to be on the water at PC.  I launched a little ahead of Mojo, so I decided to fly fish the kelp bed just east of the rock while I waited for him to catch up. I was fishing a blue and white clouser type fly with lead eyes that I copied from Tinker.  Also fished a chartreuse and white one that worked well also.

By the time Mojo got out there I had aleady caught over 20 black rockfish.  I quit at 30 because my arm was getting tired and decided to try for some lings with lures.  Fishing was much slower with gear.  I managed to get a few more rockfish, a keeper ling and a cabezon.

I returned to the kelp bed and finished out the day catching another 10 rockfish on the fly.

This was my best day fly fishing for rockfish.  The launch and landing were like being at the lake.  There was no wind and minimal swells.  A person can't ask for much better than that for a final rockfish trip of the year.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

That sounds like a total blast and a great way to close the rockfish season! Nothing more fun than fast and good fighting fish on a flyr od.

(extremely) fast sinking line? Or close to the surface with just a the weight of the fly dropping it down?

Nice work, both of you.

Nobaddays, I'm still watching for an opportunity to get some of the blue/white flies to you.  Not that you need mine after the day you had - and it seems we won't need them the rest of the year...

I expected the worst, but it was worse than I expected...

I use a fast sink line and weighted fly.  I would cast then let it sink about 15 sec then do a fast strip. The fly was probably never more than 10 ft deep.  The water was clear enough I could see some of the fish take the fly.
