I don't see a problem with powered kayaks. As I see it, the handicap is the Barbie rod, not the watercraft.

I think the main advantage of running under power is the potential to fish longer hours on location - i.e. access to more fishable area etc.   Having said that, and though they are not a real personally powered kayak or SUP, I don't object to seeing a few Mokais on the water of this if others are ok with.  They come with their own advantages (speed) and disadvantages (ungainly, a bitch to get set up, less sea-worthy) etc.    I only know one guy with a pair of Mokais and I doubt Larry would mind me saying he is unlikely to dominate the rest of us so long as he had to use his barbie rod!

LOL.   My vote is the more the merrier so long as its a SUP, Kayak, Canoe, or I suppose float tube.   Personally wouldn't want this to get taken over by power boats though.

I've been really excited to try one of these. It's the same reel, but with telescoping, line-through rod. Seems much better for big fish than the straight fiberglass rod with two guides.

We may need to review the rules. That one may be to powerful and give an unfair advantage. :police:

Lol. it's good to be the king...in this case since ripndrag puts on the tourney, I can accept virtually any set of rules.

the next step in this "how crazy can we kayakers get" is a hand lining derby.

then I think next after that is a derby where you can use the kayak as transport but you have to get out of the kayak and catch then land a halibut.  great for testing your immersion gear and re-entry skills which I need to work on as well.

THEN the halibut rodeo!!!!!! yee-haw!!!!!

HAND Lining - that was me last year when my drag on my barbie rod failed utterly in the first battle round.   Hoping for better performance from barbie or iron man rod this year!!    Dates look good - really need one of those harpoons since my AK garage Macgyver 'Poon is rusting like mad in the salt this year.

I absolutly will fish yalls barbie pole tourny and any thing else you dream up while Im up here, as to
Powered boats, mine is,so for the last two years I've entered many tournies but I always disqualify myself as I feel there is an advantage to power. I use mine basically to make sure I can get back to launch site. I am 78
Years old and beginning to lose some fitness. I dont think that should stop
Me from fishing with friends Ive made all over, but I dont want an advantage and I dont need prizes, just the funof being with new people on the water.
