Sportsmans Warehouse has Hook 4 and 5s for sale at $199 and $249. These have the gps and basic coastal and inlake charts. What makes these a better deal is that for less money than the basic model you also get Lake Insight Pro charts, detailed charts of US lakes. More for less!

I have the hook 5 on my kayak and love it. The chirp gives great definition and has been very useful in the salt. I think a lot of people may run smaller units, but I wouldn't want to go any smaller than 5" while running two functions on the screen, which is crucial in salt water IMO.

I can't recall which map package mine came with, but the ocean and rivers are almost all missing topo charts, except for the Columbia. There is an ok Hagg map, but pretty meager definition.

The maps I have would be my only complaint, but this is a great overall unit in my experience.

There is the pre-installed maps that are pretty basic, but if you have a unit that has upgraded maps included or you installed aftermarket maps, it is quite possible... albeit likely- that you haven't switched over to the upgraded installed map via the software menus. Just because you install it or even if it comes pre-loaded, doesn't mean you are viewing the upgraded maps. You have to go in and select the map you want to use. This little nugget of information escaped me for a long time when I got my Lowrance.

They used to come with Navionics charts. The updates I got with my Gold version also has Sonarchart which gives you high def (1 ft/0.5m detail) and updated detail from community sonar uploads.
Better to keep ones mouth shut and presumed a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

I've checked thru all the maps. I checked and I have lake insight. Just doesn't have quality maps for up here.

I have one as well.  I have the Nautic Insight PRO V16 mapping chip.
I like to compare with the Navionics charts if possible.
I'm impressed with the Navionics web app, if their charts are the same quality I may change.
