Received this email note today from a friend close to the hood canal bridge:

Quote
"the chum circus is on .... the buyer boats are anchored  on the east side of the bridge .... looks like a city .... working all night ... the fishing boats fish 24/7 and sell to the buyers ..... the whole operation moves with the openings .... happens every year and fun to watch....
chums are now jumping  ... not a lot .... but it is early in the run .... crabbing is good."

Looks like the timing for the Slayride might be good.

If no one else comes and snagging is allowed do I get just a refund? lol.

It will be worth the trip just to hear about the attempted Monkey Faced Eel Pole Poking adventure at Ilwaco last Saturday.  Tip to others and a sneak preview:  Check the surf forecast and make sure the wave height is at least lower than the jetty at low tide.  It was hard holding a 12 foot bamboo pole in the wind much less putting it in the water.  Most of the time when we stuck it in a hole the reason was to serve as an anchor for an oncoming wave. I can tell you about other things such as how to get a new iphone, etc.

I'm unfortunately out, but I'm going to try and head out to the area this weekend if weather is OK.

Can anyone share a bit more intel on launching spots or general areas (not looking for "honey holes") that tend to be good for fish? Having never fished this area before and likely won't be able to pre fish it any time before too.

Everyone will likely be launching from the same spot.  You fish right in front of the hatchery.  There isn't really a "secret spot", it's just schools of chum running all over the place in front of the hatchery.

There's a set of stairs either side of the dock in T13's pic. That's where I launch unless I'm staying in the Sunrise Hotel which is the dock at the top of the circle. The stairs are short, but steep and can be a PIA when solo. Pretty easy with a battle buddy

FYI...RAM Mounts is kicking down a few prizes, so we may have some stuff for 4th, 5th and 6th place. Huge Thanks to John Jackson from RAM for the donations.
