So the fam and I will be camping at Cape Lookout on memorial day weekend.  I plan to bring the kayak (as weather permits).

I know we got a bunch of people from that area that fish PC and Tillimook bay.

Anyone want to join me for that saturday or sunday?

Also,  any pointers for fishing there?  Is there a good spot out of the campground?

Thanks guys!
Will trade oral favors for fish.

We're planning on heading to the coast for the same weekend.  I'd be up for a PC trip on Sunday, conditions permitting.

There are surf perch there right out from the campground. From what I've seen it wouldn't be very fun to launch a kayak from the north side of cape lookout. The south side is nice, but it's no walk in the park to access.

We went down the mountain our first time taking the kayaks there. It's no wonder my son interviews me every time I offer to take him fishing.

It was a mistake, lol! We only took that path once, and we called my dad to come rescue us when we finished fishing. We probably would have had to stash the kayaks in the bushes over night in order to get outa there before dark. We were cutting through the bushes to save time. We crossed one switchback too many and had to drag them back up to the trail before we could make it the rest of the way down.
Just giving the kid stories to tell about his jackass dad when he gets older. [emoji847]

It looks like about three miles from Sand Lake to the cape. Would that be easier?

Yes, but you have to walk it. No motor vehicles allowed beyond sand lake.

It's actually a little over a mile and a half if you drive down onto the beach and up to the motor vehicle deadline.  That's what we did.  It was still a very long and tiring day.

The walking distance from the "No Vehicle Beyond This Point" sign to the launch area is closer to two miles.

Also note for Sandlake Recreation area that there is a morning cerfew where you can't operate a motor vehicle on the sand before I think 7am.

A valide ORV tag and flag are also required to operate a motor vehicle out there.

If you are driving a four wheeled vehicle (not ATV), a charged  fire extinguisher is also required to be in the vehicle.
