We'll be camping at sunset bay the 3rd week of agust. Seasoned kyaker looking for more, don't really wanna go out alone. But I will when the wife is sleeping 😑
Hoping the ocean isn't blown out!
But I'm looking for alternatives if big blue does blow...
I've been looking at 10 mile lake as an alternative I'm not really a bass fisherman.. so I'm looking for trout.
I do run a downrigger Any pointers on the lake?

Well.. your timing is off by a weekend. The SBAOTD is on the 26th and certainly there will be some of us arriving earlier in the week.

The bay offers some good rockfishing as well as salmon. In fact that has been the back-up for the tournament. Almost all of the costal lakes are Bass and Trout lakes. Take your pick. 10 Mile is a big lake! 2 lakes actually...

regarding the coastal lakes, they are mostly shallow and get warm, so ODFW plants them from Feb to early June...most but not all of the trout get caught rather quickly....Tenmile lakes got their last fish by June2.

you are coming a bit early but I start catching searun cutthroats in Siltcoos by late August, 8" to 15", and it has bass, yellow perch, plus some carryover planter rainbows, and it is a really nice lake to kayak fish, there is a great trolling loop from the launch at Dune City going south and around Booth Island, with places to stop and cast for bass into the shallows.   I occasionally loop the whole lake.  If the wind comes up, the narrow west side of Booth Island is never really nasty...if you decide to go to Siltcoos, PM me for some spinner suggestions.   cheers, roger
