I agree that the regulations could be more clear and cover each and every "what if" folks could come up with, even if that means they'd then be the length of the Encyclopedia Britannica...  However, whenever someone suggests the regulations should only be in electronic form and only available online, I have to wonder if they're among the few who don't know anyone who fishes whom also doesn't own (or know how to use) a computer, or - like me - doesn't use a smart phone.

Older folks and luddites have rights!   :banjo:
I expected the worst, but it was worse than I expected...

what would be awesome with the regs is if they adopted the WDFW app and somehow linked it to the new electronic tagging system so you could just point on the map and it would code it right.  For those who havent used it, the WDFW app is pretty slick.  Just find the body of water on the map, tap it with your finger and it pulls up the current regs for that body, species, limits, etc.

first, I really enjoyed all the 'big mystery' fish comments to this thread...

next, as I happen to install the new ODFW app on my phone this morning and am getting ready to buy all my electronic credentials for 2019*, I think this addresses the first part of what Shin09 asked about:
----------------------------
Will I have to pin my location when I tag my fish or animal electronically?

Customers will have the option of either pinning the location of their harvest or providing the wildlife management unit or fishery location code. ODFW recognizes the potential sensitivity of personal hunting and fishing locations and will be evaluating options to address confidentiality issues associated with the new system.

what I have not seen yet, but might already be part of the new system or should not be difficult to incorporate are:
1- tap your location and have the most recent and applicable rules and regs come up.
2- whether you choose to 'pin' your location or enter the fishery location code to tag a fish, the system should only allow you to apply a species code that is valid for retention at that location.

cheers, roger

*this includes the Invasive Species permit which is outstanding.

Footnote:  "The vendor ODFW is using for the new system (JMT) also manages the license sales system for the states of Idaho and Washington."
