I believe that Steelheaded Jay is referring to my tendency to allow my fishing partners a good head start before I arrive. But as I think of it, I was the first at the launch for the only fishin date we've scheduled. In fact, I think Jay got there last! (even though he was actually on time) :-\  ;D

Back to the original post:

Jason (Nanook) is the HUGE exception to the rule for the vast majority of kayak dealers (and that applies equally to kayak shops as well as the big stores). He is a kayaker who takes kayak fishing seriously as opposed to an after thought or food supply. Take advantage of him. ;)

Yakinitup was part of one of the other exceptional stores that actually catered to kayakfishing, but he's up by y'all now and his old store is a bit of a drive to get to from there (although it's worth it to go fishing ;D )

It's kinda similar to my dilemma when I moved to PDX in '01.  Lots of kayakers, lots of fisherman, very few kayak fisherman and even now VERY few who actually work at places that sell them.

Squidgirl:

Getting out is definitely on the agenda, but I'm there to work on the house (and the Vanagon) some more. Still, a day or two on the water somewhere between PDX and there sounds great (and I'll do my best to minimize the "headstart" time.
