I've done some looking around on the board and don't see that anyone has posted a review about the fishing kayak Dick's carries from Field & Stream. For $550 it doesn't look too bad.

Believe me, I really want to become a Hobie groupie; but the price is hard to swallow.
Thoughts?

Thanks  :newbie:

Justin picked this boat up last year and I think he likes it so far. Hopefully he will chime in soon. I think it's nearly always on sale too, I think it was down to like 450 last year at one point.

Yeah, it's probably is the same boat. Dicks would have just rebadged it.

Thanks for the replies.
So, what would be the downside to something like this? Would it be worth my time to get this, while my buddy gets a Hobie (Revo 13)? Or am I going to be constantly wishing that I'd coughed up the extra coin?
We're most likely going to be hitting the Willy, Columbia, and perhaps the lower Sandy with ocean trips as often as maybe 6 times a year. We're actually hoping for more ocean time, right now we get out to jetty / surf fish about 6 times a year.

I see a slight resemblance to a Tarpon, but that's no "rebadged Tarpon."

Well its a rebadged something.

That boat should be able to handle all of that water. The Main downside I see is that you can't demo it before buying. If you hit up next adventure or the kayak shed they will let you test drive before buying. The kayak shed had some killer deals on tarpons too. They're nice boats. I have an older one and it did all the water you mentioned great.

Last summer when I was wanting to give kayak fishing a try,  I was eyeballing the F&S Eagle Talon at Dicks as well.     I could not find any really negative reviews on the Eagle Talon other than a good number of people having problems with the foot rests slipping and needing to be modified to stay in place.
I found several replies to those interested in the Eagle Talon to also look at the Perception Pescador as it is in the same general price range.   It is a rebadged version of the older WS 120 which had a great reputation in the kayak fishing community.   It also is rudder ready which is something I wanted to have as an option down the road.   I found one at Sports Authority for $650 which was a bit more than the Eagle Talon, but then found that West Marine had them in their catalog for $$599 under the name Confluence Pescador.    Sports Authority was happy to price match and since they had one in stock,  I took it home.
They can be found as low as $500 with shipping online for the none fishing version which lacks the rear flush mount and Scotty Pole Holder.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

That is the same kayak that I have.  I like it.  I've had it since last May and have caught quite a few fish out of it.

The front rod holder is a little far to reach and the factory seat sucks.  I would have liked there to have been a hatch in the back end of the yak.

Besides that, I enjoy fishing out of it.  Search for posts by me.  I've got photos on here somewhere.  If you have any more questions, just ask.

Here's some photos from last June.

I've been on a old buddies, it left something to be desired for handling for me... The seat wasent that great either....the few times we paddled together I was able to out maneuver, out speed his talon, also beware of the foot pegs! Lol! He lost his right peg first hour on the water, don't know if it was the peg or op error...

I will admit though it did feel slightly more stable than my yak...

I had a similar instance when I first got mine.  It wasn't clipped all of the way on.  Since then I haven't had any problems with the peg.

This is great info, rudder ready is a good point and I'll definitely look into this one- thanks Craig. Thank you to everyone else as well.
