I was thinking take a day off and go fishing in Cle Elum Lake between 12/26 to 12/30 from noon to 4 PM, the day will be firmed up once I know which day has good weather and the wife don't have any plan. I would like to have a few companies to fish with for this historic fish.

I have almost two weeks off during that time and might be able to head over to Cle Elum from the Snohomish area. I've never even heard of Cle Elum Lake and have never seen a burbot or mackinaw in person before, though, so would be entirely dependent on those who are more experienced to tell me what gear to bring and how to use it. It would be great to check another new species or two off my list before the end of the year. :)

Was there yesterday.  The nets are out in force and the Mackinaw fishing was terrible, I only managed to catch one and it was the smallest I've ever caught, probably small enough to slip through the nets.  While I was there they were checking the nets and motored over to me and gave me two Burbot.

The Speelyi Beach access has been closed since Oct. 1 as they are tearing it up and making major improvements.  I was there they day they were coning it off and talked to the guy for a while and he said it would be closed until May, there was a local newspaper article that said January so somewhere in that range...

I'd be up for a Burbot trip in Dec if it isn't too icy.

Compare that dink to my PB (34") that I got the day Speelyi closed.

It looks like the pass is icing and it not worth the risk, let's plan on going there next Spring.

Sounds good. I'm fairly comfortable with cold temps now, but am not really that interested in fighting iced over passes to get to where I'm fishing. That tips the effort/risk vs. reward equation just a bit too far.  :D

Sounds like a better plan.  I was up there a few weeks ago and it was 27 degrees but at least it was sunny.  The nets were still out so fishing was poor.  In the spring the new upgraded launch at Speelyi should be ready, I'm not sure I'd want to try the "launch" I went out of the last two times if it is icy ground, would be pretty sketch.

Whoa!  That's a hog!  You should ask, "Does this fish make my thighs look skinny?"

;D, yeah he was a fattie.  Hopefully the netting isn't getting too many of these big ones!

That's a nice looking fish!  I'm sure the one I caught was just full of Sockeye!

I am going to have to give this a try in the next couple weeks.  Those fish are awesome.
